Map AOBE question

Post by Ryanm07 » Mon Feb 19, 2007 12:52 am

ok another map sensor question.

I got the map clamp from hahn, cost me $100. It only had two wires comming out of it, black and red. I wired the red into the map signal and black into the ground. I'm getting a bad stumble/lean spot going into boost. But i'm getting no map sensor codes. When hooked up to my laptop it looks like the voltage is stopping at 14.9 something volts while in boost. But i figured if that was the max voltage it would throw a high voltage code. Does it sound like my Map clamp isnt working? If that does sound like the problem i'll just build the radio shack one and do it the way I should have in the first place. thanks!!

Try calling hahn and talk to them bout it before you do anything else... And make sure you hooked the map clamp up right... The red wire should be hooked into the signal wire and the black in the ground wire...

yeah, they gave me directions that just said...wire to pin # whatever at the computer. wire the other wire to this pin # at the computer, and i really dont know how to find which pin is what, so i wired it in right at the sensor going by which wire is which in the sticky. i'm definetly saying its probably not working though, because like I said my reading is going up over 14v. shouldnt it stay like under 5 if it was working?

You can find a computer pin chart in a factory service manual. Or you could go online and do a little research. I know that I've had to search for this as well and have found one somewhere. I'll dig in my archive list of links, but no gaurentee...this isn't the mens whorehouse :D

thanks for the inputs guys. yeah theres no way this thing is working right. I get a bad stumble (lean spot) going into boost, but if i just smash through it its pretty much fine. i'm seeing that everyone else has theirs set to like 4.60v. which i'm guessing is the signal voltage.

Uninstall it, and use a multimeter to measure voltage with the key on but the motor not running.

well heres a little update...

I took off the map clamp and the car runs the exact same...maybe even a little better lol. I went to radioshack and got the potentiometer, but they didnt have the diodes, i guess i'd have to get them off the website. I did pretty much break the connector going into the map sensor in half, but it is still hanging on, and the car still runs, but i'l have to get a new one i guess. That plug just did not want to come out. Has anyone used the missing link from synapse? I figured if it works maybe i'd give it a shot. Otherwise i'll just build the AOBE. It seems to go into boost fairly smooth now, as long as i'm at like half throttle, at part throttle its got a bad stumble.

You can also rig up 3 check valves on it. So the arrow points out to atmosphere. Like this:

MAPTTTSensor

And have the check valves at the bottoms of the Ts. It's the mechanical way to accomplish the same thing. You kinda have to silicon a vacuum hose into the housing though.
