O2 sensor problems...

Post by Ryanm07 » Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:29 pm

ok, i had a thread awhile ago on this but it was long and my question would never get answered. basically: turbo'd car and o2 sensor started throwing high voltage codes when plugged in. including when downstream was plugged into eliminator. the car would try to lean it out since it was reading extremley rich and lean out and eventually bog down and stall. unplug sensor and car runs basically fine, with the exception of an a/f all over the place throughout the band.

this was on my old turbo, which had a pretty bad oil leak into my exhaust. could oil on the sensor cause this to happen? I havent tried it since, and if its a possibility i'll spend another $80 on a new sensor, if not i wont waste $80. thanks guys!

get the oil leak fixed, replace the sensor, start over. Thats what I would do. Oil COULD affect the reading causing the ECU to go whacko, but I've never had that problem. I don't have my downsteam plugged in and it runs fine. Every car is different, but I'd first fix the oil leak. Oil is like blood to you....don't run out.

yea, the oil seals in the turbo were shot. I already replaced it. i'll give it a shot. its just weird because they seem to read fine with key on but when i start it up they go nuts and jump right up to 1.25v in seconds.

wow, ok so apparently i've been getting the wrong sensor at advance this whole time... so thats probably my reason for getting the high voltage codes. i'll find out tomorrow and post a warning in the 2g section for anyone buying a sensor at advance.

I had trouble finding an o2 sensor for my FF LT header that would fit, I tried almost every sensor at advance and finally matched one up. What part number did you get?

13695 bosch. it was $112.88, i called napa down the street and it was $69.00. so when we started looking into it not only did we find out we (i work at advance) are ridiculously over priced on O2 sensors, we figured out i've been getting the wrong one. I think the 13695 is for 02 and possibly newer. The listing was weird. It listed 13695 for calif. emissions AND for fed. emissions. but if you look in the book under 01, not only does it give you two different numbers for them but neither one of them are 13695, and none of the other auto parts stores list the 13695 for the 01.

Moral of story: check prices, and get part numbers and brands before you buy. my car has been running like shit and without O2 sensors for 7 months because noone could figure this out, and chances are (i'll find out for sure tomorrow) that it was all just a wrong part, and the worst part is, that it fit perfectly.

My 02 took a crap on me when I was in the middle of a 500 mile drive home. No 02+sfmu= not a fun mix.

yea every place lists the wrong o2 sensors....i strongly recomend just buying them from the dealer, or maybe just dont get bosch. I hate their plugs and i'm starting to hate their o2 sensors.

ok heres an update! i put my original O2 back in. it SEEMED to read ok for awhile. I went and drove it and boom poping lean and high voltage. I took it home, cleared the codes, started it and tried to adjust the fuel. while just sitting in my car watching my laptop the o2 sensors just randomly go to 1.275 v and stay there. that includes the downstream, which doesnt even have a sensor plugged into it. The code is a PO132 and in the factory service manual it says "bank 1 sensor 1 circuit shorted to voltage" any ideas? I have exhaust leaks really bad. but its going in this week to get the downpipe made with the cat in it, and i got a new sensor from the dealer today. I just wanna get that light off and not burn up my brand new cat. any help is greatly appreciated!!!
