Just wondering?

Post by 60trim » Sat Jun 02, 2007 1:41 am

So, I met a guy tonight that has a 2ng neon just like me. Boosted with a TO4E. Now, I asked him about his fuel set up and he just said SRT injectors. I asked him if he upgraded his fuel pump and he said no. Asked him what kind of management he was running and he stated missing link. He had the audacity to piont it out to me. Now, he states that hes pushing between 7 and 10 psi on this set up. Do you really think its possible? Input please. Go.

So, SRT injectors and missing link is all he has for "fuel system set up" No return line btw.

^ yupp, while it probably runs...it probably does so very horribly. i would venture to guess that it runs so bad that he isn't even making very much power. did you see carbon marks all over his back bumper or did you happen to see it puffing out carbon like crazy when he drove away. he sounds like one of the guys that is in it for the bov...

Well, I didn't see him drive it at all. Checked his back bumper for what kind of exhaust he had and was a fat cannon. I can tell you that I was a little disappionted in him. This is the 3rd guy that I've met here locally that has boosted there 2g and no fuel support. Am I really the only one that has made an effort for my engine not to go boom?

Lots of people do it, just to try to go fast. Where are you located anyway?

I'll probably make a road trip out there in mine to visit the family. Maybe I'll make an extra stop and let you see what real engine management looks like... heh

Theres just no way hes running that much with just injectors and missing link. Theres no way a stock pump/regulator is going to support that. I'm only at 7psi now, and thats when it spikes. Taking it easy its only at 4psi (no intercooler yet so i'm being careful) and I still did the pump and spoolboy mod. I can't see that car being fun to drive. Stock regulator is set at like 58psi btw, think how rich that car must be running with the bigger injectors...

My car ran pig rich with stock injectors and anything over 30psi base pressure. So I would say extremely rich at idle and cruising, pretty damn lean in boost with the knock sensor dumbing everything out and making very little power. Let me guess, he didn't have a wideband in this low buck, ultra cool setup?

ok so this might sound stupid but by you living with high altitude doesnt that play a factor with air that the car takes in and might be a reason that these tards can get away with not have a fuel set up? does that make since?

In theory, higher elevation = less oxygen = less oxygen taken into the engine = lower a/f ratio. (dont take my word for it, i might be talking outta my ass)

So hes probly not buring as rich as someone like me would living in the cali central valley would.

That might have something to do with it, Im sure its just the knock sensor dumbing his car down to near stock levels. When my knock sensor would act up and the car would pull timing it felt so damn slow. You need the right amount of fuel to get no detonation and make power. I'm sure he thinks its fast but if he took it to a dyno he would be disappointed.

That is correct. We have less air up here. I would like to see what he runs. If I can get set up, I'll have him run me at the track with a video of it. I'll let you know. In the mean time, I'll probably see him at the local sonics meet this up coming Friday and I'll ask him more questions. Will keep you guys up dated.

That's true that tuning changes at higher elevations, but every system that works well has some sort of variable for calibrating MAP to atmospheric pressure, as well as exhaust gas correction. Basically, if the tune is good at sea level, it's still going to be a relatively good tune at 8k ft.

Its more of a crappy tune. I've had lots of friends come from Cali, Florida, Texas, ect and have to retune to really get anything out of there car. Its different up here. I plan on taking the EFI 101 and 102 classes here in the near future.

High altitude sucks for building a car. It is nice though with a turbo, as you can just make up the difference with more boost.

Yeh, almost every car out here is boosted. Most are sleepers. People make fun of the vids of the 12 and 11 sec DSMs, SRTs and other various vehicles when they are 10-11 sec cars down at sea level with a retune. Like you stated, Altitude sucks.
