Boost Problem/Question
Boost Problem/Question
Last night I was playin around on an empty road in the middle of nowhere and while boosting the car lurched and the check engine light came on..
I thought I had broken something so I pulled over and everything was fine.. the code was the P2074 which in my Research is a byproduct of me having an AGP Wastegate on a 2005 Stage 0 PCM.
I didn't have the Check Engine Light on prior to this and I am trying to explain the loss of boost.. the lurch and the check engine light coming on.. any idea's?
I am still using the stock stuff with the Short RAM and AGP Wastegate being my only modification..
(2005 SRT4)
Any suggestions or opinions are very much appreciated... stupid question but can a wastegate go bad or die?
Thanks again..
Dave

Thanks for the document.. I will look it over... anyone else with an AGP WGA on an 05 SRT experience this? I did see some stuff on SRTForums and I am going to be making sure the WGA was installed correctly etc etc

As far as the incorrect install.. I don't think the previous owner bypassed the Boost Solinoids (I know I spelled that wrong) like the instructions say.. I am going to look into thisWenuden wrote:its pretty hard to improperly install an wga. Its because its an '05, and seeing more than x boost at y throttle.
I'm gonna have an '05 stage 1 computer for sale here soon, that will eliminate your issue.
Well my other thought is this.. I think my Boost guage may be showing incorrectly.. (sits at 10hg of Vac when vehicle is off) and when I go WOT it shows 15PSI of Boost.. now.. that is approaching the limits of the stock fuel system..
Lets say its only off by a little bit.. if the WGA is set for 17PSI for instance.. would that cause the shuddering (the car lunges).. would that be consistant with lack of fuel and too much boost? That could cause the P2074 Symptoms... because generally.. I don't get that code unless I have a boost leak.
PM me when you have the stage 1 for sale.. I'll buy it from you.

you don't HAVE to bypass the vac solinoid, but if you don't the comp will just relearn and correct boost to stock levels. You need a new boost gauge. If I were you, I wouldn't boost until I replaced that. You could be at 20psiand not even know it. Replace the boost gauge, run the wga straight off of the nipple on the back of the compressor housing, adjust the wga to 16-17 psi, then see if the code comes back. (it will). My car just got dropped off by the wrecker, I'll be pulling parts all this week, weather permitting. I'll let you know when s1 is ready to go.
I agree with all your points above. I will attempt to locate another boost gauge or hell I have a warranty maybe I should have them replace it (Dealer).. but I don't know someone put a blue LED in the guage before me.. could have forked it up and they may not warranty it.Wenuden wrote:you don't HAVE to bypass the vac solinoid, but if you don't the comp will just relearn and correct boost to stock levels. an led shouldn't make a difference on boost LOL. Its just a 12v piece of acrylic wired to a 12v source. The vac line is separate. Plus it would take a bit of jostling to eff the gauge up. The stockers just plain suck. I'd buy an autometer ultra-lite 30/30 if I were you. It'll use the stock light and vac line, plus you won't have to upgrade if you go big-turbo in the future. Itsworth spending on if you're afalraid your dealership is gonna fuck you on waranty, cheaper than them diagnosing the problem and repairing it.
Indeed I'm seriously considering it.. After our local SRT Meet last night a friend of mine who also has an AGP WGA showed me how to adjust it... did some adjusting and brought it down some.. the boost gauge now shows boost tapering off near redline as it should..Wenuden wrote:an led shouldn't make a difference on boost LOL. Its not shuddering like it was.. going to work on the new boost gauge... Off topic.. what bolts does the blue plate take?
