Alright quick question guys, since at the moment at work in Afghanistan. Prob. a dumb question too.
Money wise and power wise versus an SRT swap
Can I get a SOHC turbo? Worth it ? Cheaper than a SRT swap you think in ur opinion?
How much power you think I can get outta of it? How much would it cost? Any sites? Thanks for your help guys.

Only post in 1 section, or a mod will come over and rip off your manness.

yeah, definitely only need to post it once. sure it should have been in this section first and i would move the other if i had control of that section, but refrain from posting multiples of the same thread.

that is a very loaded question.
you need to narrow down your goals and what you want out of the car before we will be able to give you any form of an answer.

Yea I know, sorry I was in a rush when I first posted.
I just want to turbo the R/T as cheap as fast possible w/ the most speed I can get just wondering how I should go about it.

do yourself a favor and don't turbo your car. While there are different levels of expensive, there's not really a "cheap" way of turnoing a neon. Going into it thinking cheap, quickly and speed is going to get you in trouble.

Count on it spending 5k to do right, and anything left over is a bonus.

117mph traps don't mean shit, maybe you're spinning horribly. What are your et's, eric?
Sorry to threadjack, just noticed his sig LOL.

I can't remember whose has it in their sig, but anyways to the point, you have cheap, fast, and reliable...and you can only pick two, and seeing that you have made your choice already, I can only pray to see the outcome...

I just don't want to see the outcome in pieces LOL.

Had bad clutch problems the only time I took the old setup to the track. The only way I could keep the clutch from breaking loose was to use street tires. Spinning across the 1/8 mile mark, I did the 117 trap. With the slicks, burning the clutch up as soon as I hit high boost, I made 12.5.

full breakdown of the 117 slip??? i.e. 60' 1/8 et and then 1/4 et/mph??

I don't know where the slip is, but I think it was a 2.4 60', more than 9 second 1/8 mile, and a 13.4 1/4. It's pretty fun to blow by a full bolt on evo at the 1/8 mile still spinning the tires and trying to keep it in a lane.

Wtf the you guys talking bout lol, I meant which would be cheaper like the MPx SOHC turbo kit or an SRT swap lol
I'd figured it would be a 5k thing tha is honestly not a prob. well at least when I get back Uncle Sam is going be paying for it lol.
Ether way correct me if I'm wrong, I'm gonna need a new tranny, clutch, upgraded brakes for more power.
Any other suggestions?

I would go for anything but the SRT Swap. The stock turbo and intercooler is small, yes you can upgrade, but not the point.
White-lighting above might have a good deal for ya from the sound of it. How were you planning on doing fuel control? SAFC-2?
If your tranny is acting up then yeah, if it has lower miles on it and you haven't abused it, then just a good clutch should be good.

dude im not trying to bash you at all right now but you need to rerad alot.. i have been exactly where you are. just read everything you can about turbos in general what they do how they work what is needed what has worked for other people. then do what you think is the best.
esteminer has turboed his sohc and has made lots and lots of hp and he is completely happy. hankens_yo has swaped his sxt to a stock srt motor and he is completely happy. it all depends what you want your car to do and what you have time for and all sorts of factors. back to my original sugggestion.. read on here alot. I have been a member for about a year and i have learned so much stuff from this site its unreal.

O yea I am reading just really busy for the next couple months, already learned a lot from the thread, wasn't bashing on anyone, just asking what to kind of expect but apparently the thread just went into a couple of different directions, but thanks anyways I'll figure it out sometime later.

There are 2 kits: Hahn, and ASP. Both work well. Hahn is better for passing emissions, ASP is better for making power. They both use independant fuel control. Any kit that does not will not work on a 2gn neon properly.
I make the ASP kits, and I'm available on AIM or PM. Typically, people will come to me instead of getting the information secondhand, but I hope that you have some information that hasn't already been covered here.

If you want to talk about Neon stuff in general hit me up anytime on AIM or yahoo or on here. I have pretty much done it all and or know enough to give you the info you need. There is all kinds of different ways to go about turboing a neon. I did it from scratch with out a kit and would not do it again. Buy the Hahn kit or the ASP kit. You will be happy in the end. Yes the ACR/RT trans is not ideal for doing a turbo. The 3.55 is proffered but not required. A clutch is a really good idea. The stock clutch will work but it will not last long. If it were me and I was doing it over. I would buy the kit leave as much stock as I can and then go from there. Buy an extra motor to build up and then once its all done just drop it in trans, clutch, motor and all.
