Yea, I'd say my main worry is wondering how long my clutch is going to hold out, haha.

Talking to a few businesses to see what they can do for me on turbo prices right now.

Oh yes... must look into BOV's as well, and why type of pulley I'll need since the S/C will be gone...

The cost for this project is being bumped up to 3k. I just don't see myself being able to -safely- stay in the initial 2k limit. Plus, since I have a buyer lined up for the S/C kit, that's an added 1.5k subtraced from the cost once it's all said and done.

Ran into a problem with tuning. HPtuners if $500.... $100 to unlock my car if I can find someone else willing to let me use their cables. I REALLY don't want to spend the $500 for a program that I have no idea how to use.

Ouch, that's a lot of cash!

Well, aside from HPTuners I don't really know what you options would be. You didn't mention anything else that you are aware of. Any others out there? Try to find someone in the area that will let you use their cables. However, it is always nice to have everything you need. Then you don't have to rely on others.

Really $500 isn't too bad considering tuning is one of the single most important things your car will need to safely operate. Just my two cents, though.

Oh i'm aware the tuning is necessary, but I'm not a tuner, and have no idea WTF I'm doing with it

If i actually had a little experience, I'd have no problems what-so-ever with buying it. Anyone you know good with tuning? If I had least had someone local that could help me with it, I wouldn't mind either.

And that's the only cobalt management system I know of.

Oh, and I found this:
http://cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.p ... ght=vulcan

I'd just need to change the intake manifold, and probably cut the charge pipes up to fit my engine... Thoughts, opnions? and get on AIM god damnit!

That looks like a pretty solid kit. Sounds like you'll just need a different IM and a few things might need changed up a bit. I just glanced over it quickly (I'll look into it more tonight). Only thing I see is that it will push the limits of even your new budget.

I'm going to see if I can talk him below 2k for it. Then i'll just need injectors, BOV, possible new charge piping, HPtuners, and maybe some misc. thing here or there.

Oh yea, wastegate.... I've been wondering this for awhile. What's the difference between Internal or external? Pros, cons?

chris had the tial waste gate and BOV on his car and i would highly recomend that.

It depends on the type of turbo you get that decides if you do an internal or external waste gate. Internal of course is part of the turbo, external is on the outside of the turbo, or in the manifold.

I've spent all day today pricing parts out. I just can't seem to get it for around 3k since I need HPtuners.

However, there's a group buy on the bowtie forums for the TVS supercharger. 100% complete bolt on, includes HPtuners, 60# injectors, step colder plugs, and the support and tuning for the most reputable company for cobalts.

Cost: 2.5k shipped
Estimated WHP: ~290 with no supporting mods. 330+ with.

I think, I might be going to S/C route... cheaper, easier to install, help with tuning, and just as safe and reliable.

I really like BOV's too :(

Really the wastegate just boils down to personal preference, however sometimes preference is trumped by the turbo that you decide upon as jerry mentioned.

I run an external gate on my car and dump to the atmosphere. Why? Because it sounds sexy as fugg. Some people don't like the sound of dumping to the atmosphere, but I think it sounds nasty. You always have the option of routing into your exhaust system which quiets it down considerably.

As T mentioned, I run a Tial wastegate and BOV on my car with [borat voice] GREAT SUCCESS! [/borat voice]

I've never even heard your car move more than a few feet.

I think it's decided. I'm going the supercharger route. It's cheaper and I get the same results, plus I get to have the tuner program so I can always monitor what's going on.

So, the S/C -> T/C is off. It's just too costly for my budget. One day, I'll be as rich as Chris.

I'll be buying the Harrop TVS tonight. Wanna install it?

You heard it before the glorious MS install. A fried injector driver doesn't bode well for running properly...haha. When it gets nice out we should do a shoot.

Not rich. I like to call it stupid...err, something like that.

Well, I can't say I am terribly upset with your decision. I think it is the better choice for you. Don't get me wrong, it would have been sweet on your car but I think going this route will be easier for you to handle. So, in that respect, I think you have made a stellar decision.

That'd be sweet. I haven't done much with superchargers.

I'm am all about a shoot... finally... after like, two years

If I had a larger budget, I'd go with the turbo route. For both the learning experience, and the sexy sound of the of turbo and BOV.

But, I am going more for what's right for me and is in my price range. I'm still a n00b when it comes to heavy modification, so this at least gets me to dip my toe in the water so to speak... and I wont have to rely so heavily on others.

One day I'll have a turbo car. One day.

That is the right attitude to have. My car's current setup certainly wasn't the first. I was one of the first to use an adapter plate and throw a SRT turbo on the 2.0. Then I did a completely different setup with a bigger turbo on the 2.0. That was just my learning curve progression...or quick sand money pit...however you wanna look at it. :banghead:

Going through the supercharger process will help you to learn a lot. You'll be surprised.

Ah to be n00bcakes. How fun it is.

When i get it installed and running, wanna head up to Milan and race?

I am going to route the dump tube like a side exit

I would route the dump tube behind one of the front tires. Hit boost, flames.

it puts a lo of stress on the mani with a long dump. if you do it, support the tube some how. i ran a 1 foot dump, then no dump. at night the flames were still visible under the car when i had the downward facing 1 foot pipe.
