They are good catch cans, i'm going to purchase one myself. Just note that you'll probably have to put some RTV on the top where the fittings screw on because they're a known boost leak.
Easy fix though.

check valve would also fix this no?

Check valve has nothing to do with the can leaking, but yes you want to run a check valve as well

The check valve will prevent the boost leak, but it may still have a vacuum leak.
I would just get a BWoody can if they are still available.

this unit i have been running for years, it helps with the notorious oil problem, but does not fix it.The ebay unit has no internal baffling so the intake still does suck in the oil you are trying to stop but not as much. The best bet is to get an oil seperator with some type of internal baffling to prevent the oil from being sucked into the intake. The $25 catch can mod is in the same boat as this, oil still gets through because there is nothing in the unit to make the solid sink into the bottom of the canister and stay there.
As the oil gets into the canister its in a mist type form, if the catch can does not seperate the oil from the air,the oil still gets into the intake...

stuff it with steel wool to keep some more of the oil from going through to the intake

How about something soft like a sponge...? I'm skeptical about putting those metal shavings like the how to had

sponge won't really help because the goal is to slow down the mist to trap the oil.
a poof would be better than a sponge.

The ebay unit is a one piece design, no way of getting into it without cutting.....

there is a drain on the bottom you can stuff it with steal wool

You wouldn't want to get too much filler in there, or it will just wick oil.
Here is another catch can discussion....
