BOV Surge...

Post by DoubtedNeon » Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:36 pm

So after doing some research apparently my "Ch Ch Ch" sound isnt supposed to be there, its a knock off greddy bov (ya, i know, im broke ok?). Ive seen some other stuff on srtforums and other sites with the same problem with this bov... apparently your supposed to take out on the the springs from these... i think the smaller one?

Am i just running this thing to tight?

also, it has 2 vaccum nipples to use? Am I supposed to leave one of these open? im assuming its for recirculation on DSM?

So far ive gotten the answer to soften up the adjustment and remove the spring.

sound rite?

im running about 10 psi.

the 2 nipples are on the other side.

ok, well here is another one having the same problem....
I'm thinking now that the BOV can't hold the high pressure and its actually blowing off prematurely...

lol. its cuz the VALVE cant take the pressure bro.

i sorta fixed mine by removing the spring...

however I still get like 1 second a flutter and then a release...

where is this sound comming from? i sounds like its surging out the turbo. also I am getting worried I am getting shaft play with the turbine..

*waits for ryan to chime in*

Back from the dead a bit..

Funny I ran into this post cuz I'm having the same issue.. At 1st to 3rd gear, anything above 7 or 8 psi the bov goes off and won't let me build pressure but in 4th and 5th I can hold 15psi without any problems..

I'm gonna whip out the boost leak tester and try taken one of the springs out to see what happens..

If that doesn't work I'm considering going with the stock surge valve and mopar plate combo..

the issues you guys are running into is called compressor surge. and its usually caused by either low boost, or you don't have the vaccum line hooked up correctly, or you have a poor vaccum source for the bov. and the two nipples on the back are both for vaccum, the large opening is for the recirc

Hmmm... I have a vacuum manifold (block) that provides everything there own source of boost/vac reference meaning everything has there own line.. Should I tee the bov off thr wastegate line then??

I ran my lines this way when I boost my 2.0 motor with a t25 turbo and never had this problem before... Also back then it was an atx, now I have a mtx tranny..

no.the prob is everyone is hitting boost at too low of rpms for themotoru need to catch it in a higher rpm range so it can effciently use the boost

I agree with you on that but if its not hooked up right its not going to work effectively.

Tried that on the way home for lunch and still the same.. Went down an empty street punched it at like 3500 rpms in 3rd and the same happened... I tried slowly going into boost in 3rd at about 4 grand and same thing..

I'll post a pic of how I have my lines ran so we can see if there's a problem there..

To tell ya the truth, I loved the T25.. I had the Nissan T25 on my old 2.0 Motor and man it was fun.. I was running like 10ish psi to redline and it screamed down the road.. Ran against my homie that has the Stage 3 Hahn kit in his 1gn and he was even shocked..

But now I'm currently running the Srt turbofold bolted to a freshly rebuilt Srt/pt 2.4 motor with just about all the supporting mods..

In the morning, I'll take the bov apart and see whats up.. I'm also thinking it might be the wga.. We'll see..

I have a 4 port Vacuum Manifold thats inline with the brake booster hose..
(From top to Bottom)
Port 1: Wga
Port 2: Boost Gauge
Port 3: Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator (rrfpr)
Port 4: Bov

And here's the bov opened up..

Checked the diaphgram and it looks good.. No rips or cracks.. I took out the inner smaller spring, scraped the old gasket off, and reinstalled everything..

Oh yea.. I also cleaned my filter..

Let's see if that helped..

Ok.. Just got back from a test run and yea its definitely the bov..
With the smaller spring removed I can now hold bout 10psi in 1st thru 3rd before it starts surging.. I'm going to adjust my wga tomorrow morning to see if I can get rid of it all..

It still leaked pretty bad so I ended up replacing it with the stock bov and mopar plate..

Do these Jap BOV's have the same mounting flange as a "REAL" greddy BOV?

I think I am having a problem with mine and thinking about just upgrading to Greddy's type R BOV.
