darrell cox 2.0 to 2.2 to 2.6l sohc stroker saga

Have a question about how to make horsepower going the all motor route, here's where to ask it.

I'd like to see a dyno chart to show where it makes HP, especially peak HP. I'm thinking it's no where near 8500 in a 2.4.

i'd like to see that dyno chart too. it was supposed to have been tuned last week. but, then again it was supposed to have been tuned the week before as well.

i have spoken with arthur aka sick95sohc and he agrees that more than likely the peak hp is probably b/w 6500 and 7k on the 2.6 as it's only at around 7500 on the 2.0.

long term plan if it stays n/a is to go the custom ground cam route mimicking something similar to crane 24's or 26's. if i go boost then it stays with the 005.

nice to see you over here jeff. got anything to add to this thread. you interested at all to see how a frankenstein 2.6 sohc will perform?

Lol, well put.

Brad, I have to agree with Erick as well. All this time and money.....sure 200whp is better than stock.....but a cryin shame compared to 500. If I was you I'd get the car back from DCR. I'd drive it a bunch. After the swell feeling of having a nice running car that can scare 80yr old ladies to death at WOT and maybe beat my GTI in a street race has worn off.....boost the pee out of it. THAT feeling won't wear off very fast. ;)

i finally have the car. there is a lot of work to get it back to where it was before and i really don't want to hear a bunch of crap from everyone. the numbers arent what i want, but it's what i have. the numbers are as follows and it's a 2.6 sohc low compression (i'm guessing around 8:1) i am posting these numbers because there have been a lot of you that have followed this build. there's a lot of heartache in the this and this thread is done for now. if i go with higher comp pistons or with boost i don't know. i don't feel much like going through the effort of posting the dyno chart so i'll just summarize it below.

hp 184 at 6100rpm. hp curve rises from 125hp at 4k rpm linearly to a peak of 184 and gradually tapers to 160 at 7.3k rpms.

tq 162 at 3.7k rpms rising linearly to a peak of 167 at 4.6k rpms where it holds max peak until 5.8k rpms. then tapers to 125 at 7k rpms. again the decline is linear without any plateaus, peaks or valleys.

Hey that's gonna be a lot of reliable power you can use. Sure the compression is way to low for N/A but hell 184hp ain't nothing to laugh about in a neon. Especially on pump gas. I am happy that you got the car back!!! I hope you post some running vids soon!

Even at 186WHP it will be preety quick. Thats faster then a Civic SI or a RSX type S. Hell due to the weight it might even beat my Audi. And you can run 87 OCT fuel. I sure can't say that. Drive it engoy it and oh, yea throw the biggest shot of nos you got at it. lol.

if the 2.6 sells then i'm parting it out and i'm done. i swore i wouldn't go into it in public and i won't. i just don't have anywhere to work on the car anymore and the amount of work just to get the car back to where it was when i dropped it of at dcr is more than i'm able to do and no local shop will touch it. if the 2.6 doesn't sell then i'm committed to completing it. it's just going to take a long time. fwiw i'll have an awesome direct port nitrous kit for sale if the motor sells.

read post 738. the car is a mess and without a herculean effort, i don't have the time or resources to get it back to where it was. if i can sell the engine and then start parting it out i'll at least recoup some of my investment.

for those wanting pics. i'll probably post some shortly, but it's nothing special. looks just it did before only on a 2.4 block.

here's the for sale post link for anyone that may be interested. if you want something different then this is the way to go. it runs fine on 87 octane so it could easily be a daily driver. i'll make a deal for any 2gn member that's interested in the entire engine package. otherwise i'll list all of the parts separately if the longblock sells. sad day.

THIS IS FOR THE SHORT BLOCK...NOT A LONG BLOCK. THE HEAD IS A SOHC SEE POST 3.

first of all, sorry to the mods that i didn't have pics the first time i tried to post this. didn't realize that was a requirement in f/s posts. but, we should be good to go now.

i have a 2.6 sohc. darrell frankensteined everything together and the motor runs fine on megasquirt. the problem is that the rest of the car is a disaster and i'm debating on just cutting my losses.

the motor is brand new with only about 80 dyno runs to break it in and sort out the ms. it's supposedly the best of everything. call darrell he can tell you all about it.

i will pull the motor for the buyer, but can't crate it. if you want to come get it fine. it'll be ready for you. if you want it shipped i'll be glad to deliver it to wherever you'd like for whomever you choose to crate and ship. just lmk.

this is going to be a short auction. i'm going to give this a week to see if there is any interest. if not then i'll just rent some shop space and get to work fixing everything that's screwed up.

dcr wants 7400.00 and a 1400.00 core charge. i will sell the motor for 6200.00. that's basically 30% off of darrell's cost.

sgt brad wrote:are you interested in a sohc? if so then the head, crane 005 cam and crane springs with ti retainers as well as the 1mm os rev ss valves are also available. i didn't think that anyone here would be interested in the sohc head, but if so then come and get it. nothing else, not the head or anything else is for sale until the short block sells. i'm not going to get stuck with parts. once the block is gone then i'll start the rest of the partout.

fwiw the head is a dcr ported head with one-off d-shaped exhaust ports and completely reworked combustion chamber. i never got to see what this motor can do as the first 2.0 based stroker that dcr built had mis-sped'd pistons that slapped themselves to death and caused the afx/r pcm to only give 13* of max timing.

now that it's on the 2.6, dcr left the low-compression pistons in so the motor is an n/a 8.5:1 motor that only makes 185hp. there is too much else wrong with the car now to warrant fixing it. i'll tackle it all if no one is interested in the motor, but if the motor sells i'm parting out everything and licking my wounds.
Best of luck Brad, with whatever brings the best closure for you.
I know this is not the ending you, or we wanted, but your sanity is whats most important.

post resurection....
Just swapping the pistons out really is not going to work since you will throw the balance of the engine out the door. Changing out the pistons require you to rebalance the shortblock or you will be blowing things up in the future...

no worries brr, not going n/a anymore. i've already torn out most of the wiring screw-ups from dcr and am in the process of rewiring the entire ms, crane, nitrous, gauges, etc. currently working on finishing up the interior wiring and battery relocate to be able to move into the engine bay and sort it all out as well. i'll try to take a pic or two if anyone is interested. i am in need of the weather caps for the pcm and the power steering lines if anyone has any available.

fwiw erick esteinmaier has been working closely with me and gets tons of credit. if this all works it will only be because of his help. i can only hope that darrell built what he said he built and that it holds together on 20-25psi of boost and 100-150hp shot of nitrous.
