darrell cox 2.0 to 2.2 to 2.6l sohc stroker saga

alright, here's the latest. i have been telling darrell for over a month that i was coming to get the car on the 17th. he called on wed and said they were installing everything and could he please have another couple of days. he said he'd give me day by day updates. i said, "fine, you have one more week." if you are reading this darrell or jonathan, i am coming next weekend. i pray that the car is done, but i'll believe it when i see it. i am very disappointed and frustrated. there is still some hope that darrell will come through, but i will have to wait until next saturday to find out. as of now i have not received anymore phone calls since wed. in spite of darrell saying he'd call me daily. i tried the shop on friday and only received the voicemail. everyone knows my number up there and i'm sure they dread seeing it come up on the caller id.

darrell told me that the #1 rod broke in 1/2 on my old stroker motor and that was the catastrophic failure. he thinks it was a bearing or crankshaft failure. so much for the bulletproof titanium nitride coating on the crankshaft. the new motor is supposed to be a 9.5 or 10:1 2.6 with all of the bells and whistles that he does. i'm just wondering if i'm going to get a running car back from his shop or if i'm going to have to finish it myself.

oh yeah fwiw those were eagle rods in the old motor. imagine what was going on in there to snap one of those in 2!!!

at this point i don't know how much i've spent. it would take time to sit down and go through all of the receipts to even get a vague idea. suffice it to say that i've spent more on mods than i did to purchase the car new.

Brad, go get the car and take it to Arthur. You throw a fraction of the money at Arthur that you have at Darrel and He will get the car done and it will be a beast. Plus he needs the funds cause he got his car broken into.

i wish i could get the car to arthur, but i wasn't even able to get up there to the car this weekend. darrell has again said he'll bring the car to me. i dunno. i really like darrell, i just think i got shifted onto the back burner. this has cost darrell way more than i've paid him. of course that doesn't change the fact that i've still not gotten what i paid for. darrell just bit off more than he could chew. it seems to be a typical situation for neon tuners. i have pics of my car and it's still in one piece. i am not too worried about experiencing the horror stories like i heard from fast fabrications after jason went belly up. my prayer is that the car is done and delivered in the next week or so. if not i'll have to plan on another trip up there and right now things are tight. i'd like to maybe fly arthur down here at some point to spend a few days. we could try the crower cam on a 2.6 bottom-end. i'd pick up the airfare, spring for the dyno time and pay him something for his time. that is if i get the car back complete from darrell. it'll be a while though.

Brad, massive kudos to you for even having the PATIENCE to still be dealing with DCR in a standup fashion and to still have the interest to still want to mod it even further. If that were my car and my $15+K invested, someone's arms would have been broken at that shop already. (Oh, wait, that would DELAY the build even further then huh? :shock: ) Either way, still subscribed to this, hoping you get your car back NOW.

Possible to what break 200? its been done in every fashion and form in any varity of 4 cylinder you can throw in a neon.

Brad here is what i don't understand. It is well known that with decent compression (10:1) you can get well over 200WHP in a 2.4 DOHC you have a 2.6 and if DCR claims that this head he made for you will flow better then a DOHC head then you should be in the 250WHP range. 197WHP is just realy, realy low and something is deffanitly not right.
