iceman issues

Post by r/tguy02 » Thu Jun 05, 2014 9:33 am

just switched from an AEM CAI setup to an Iceman setup in my 02 r/t.
everything fit fine with the AEM and my modern 60mm TB, but since installing the iceman its tighter than a virgins $%!& getting it together, and once installed the tube that goes through the fender is jammed up against the side of the hole and i know thats not good for it. My question is, is this normal? and if not what should i do about it? i guess i could cut the tube but wanted to make sure theres not something i'm overlooking. oh and yes its the proper iceman bellows tube for the magnum.

are you sure the tube is 100% inserted. Sounds like it maybe just shy of full insertion.

Installing the Iceman intake into the 2nd gen Neon, is kind of 'problematic', because it is so long.

1 ). I 'cut' mine - to make 'servicing' a bit easier.
[NOTE: I did not shorten it - I only cut it, to make it a 'two-piece' unit.]

By making it shorter, and cutting it into two pieces, removal and re-installation, is a bit easier.

I re-installed the 'cut' iceman, using a rubber transition adapter, like the kind that AEM sells.
When I need to remove the intake for any reason, I can remove the adapter, and take the Iceman out in two pieces.

I will take some pics later, and post them up here. :)
It will make more sense.

2 ). I raided the junkyard, for a large 'rubber isolator', that I used to 'sleeve' the Iceman inside the hole where it goes through the fenderwell.
I did this to help protect the iceman; and also to improve 'fitment' and keep it from moving around.

What I ended up with, was a large rubber isolator from another MoPar product.
I believe it is a MoPar part (from an Intrepid??) that is fitted to the headlamp assembly.
I have not tried to verify what car they came from, but I usually find them laying on the ground, in the vicinity of Intrepids that are in the junkyard.
Anybody else know what part I am talking about ?? :) I don't have any pics of that.....

Finally ... Here's my pic.
Apologies for the delay.

The part where I have it circled, is where I 'cut' and sectioned the Iceman.
I then coupled it back together, using a rubber AEM 'sleeve' for Cold Air Intake installations, and used 3 hose clamps, for tightening & rigidity.

When I need to remove the iceman, I unscrew the clamps, and slide the sleeve to one side.
The shortened part, is easier to remove through the wheelwell.
It is less clumsy, than trying to have to deal with getting the entire 1-piece through the hole & wheelwell.

You've definitely got the angled piece for between the throttle body and the manifold, right? I only ask because I didn't modify mine at all and it fits great. I don't have a Magnum though.

the mag iceman and the standard iceman were different. there was a "bent" piece between the throttle body and the intake on the mag setup, while the standard sohc had a straight tube. this may be causing issues for you

On mine - I have the 'regular' piece.
I don't know about r/tguy02, however.

Regardless - 'Sectioning' the Iceman, makes removal and installation easier.
