Went to buy an SRT-4...

So before I left for Orlando last week I spotted an 03 SRT-4 hidden in a used car lot near my apartment. Flame Red, No Wing, Blacked out grill and Intercooler etc etc. Sticker Price 12,500$.. Nice.

Since the dealorship was closed I took down their phone number. I called them the next day and got some info on it. 03 SRT only 32,000 miles.. Bought from an auction in Kansas, and they didnt know what had been done in the since of Modifications. I asked about the wing and they said that there was no sign of paint touch up so they thought it came from the factory that way.. Time to do some teaching I thought. I explained to them thats I was interested but I wouldnt be home until Friday the 14th. Asked if they could not sell it until I got back. They agreeed. I was giggling like a little girl the whole time I was in Orlando because I was so set on buying another Neon.. R/T and SRT united by ME!

So I get home from Orlando.. Made the 202mile trip in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Called the dealership and told them I was on my way. This car looked so clean.. No tears in the seats, no chips in the paint, engine sounded so nice.. The dealer didnt know much about the car so I was poking in and out of different things trying to see how modified it was. Found the Intercooler Sprayer switch and and the Octane Switch on the HVAC. YES! Stage 2.. Woot!.. Mopar Intake, Mopar/Borla Exhaust, Could it get any better?

I'd smiling from ear to ear. I asked since it came from an Auction if It had been car faxed. The Dealer said he hadnt pulled up the Car Fax report yet. So i took down the VIN number and called a friend that has a car fax account. Told the dealership that I would probably be back today (saturday) with a large down payment.. Signed no papers and left.

Today I get a call from my friend. I franticly answered the phone. "Lemon" is how he answers the phone. I'm in total denial. I give him the vin number again and he says the same thing and starts listing all the issues the car has gone into the shop for. He also reads off the mileage to me 47,537miles. I think I just about hit the floor.

WTF!!! GRRRRR!! I knew it was too good to be true. I'm so pissed. I called the dealership and told him I was no longer interested in it. Told him that it was listed as a Lemon.. He of course tried to deny it and said Car Fax has to be wrong.

Well back to reality.. Looks like I'm still on the waiting list for the Solstice GXP..

Ahhhh that sucks man! If a car has all those mods done to it, and for that price, you know something is wrong with it. Plus, thats the only color I really see in SRT-4's is flame red. Good decision on not getting a car that was probably driven by a kid that drove the shit out of it, modded it, rand into debt and had it repo'ed.

As for the Solstice GXP... I would go towards the Saturn Sky Redline, since it is better looking in the front. Sky's front end > Soltices'

Also... ever think about the money you could put into a new car, and use it to upgrade your car and make it fast?

you dont want the 03 any ways no limited slip meaning absolutely zero traction you will be ok it means theres a better deal out there for you just be positive.

I dont like the Sky.. Just ugly in my opinion.

Solstice GXP is more my style.

I have a SRT Turbo, return lines, Intercooler, etc etc in my guest bedroom. Just waiting to buy the fuel system and a few other things, (internals etc). But before I can start on that project I need to get another car.. and its either have my girlfriend buy a car she wants and I drive my Tiburon and hit my head on the roof and hate driving everyday or buy something thats fun and go nuts.

I meant that in the since thats it's been modified.

Oh... and the friend isnt going to go down there and buy it as he lives 3000miles away in California.. I have no friends in Florida. lol

Do'h... that sucks dude but I feel your pain. When looking for a car to do the swap on I came across some Neons that looked great and were exactly what I wanted but then after pulling the service record for them there was a crap load of stuff wrong with them that person wouldn't tell me. You wouldn't believe the extent that people will go to lie about a car having something wrong with it. This Black R/T had a bad AC leak which the person denied it having and didn't know anything about it, he said he owned the car for a year and had no idea the AC wasn't putting out cold air. Well I look at the service record and it was taken it about 4-6 months before that day to be looked at for the AC problem... within the year that he owned it. Little crap like that people will lie about to try and scam you on.

Good thing you didn't get the car though, you dont' want to inherit someone elses problems. Sometimes though you have to question whether or not it was the owners fault on some of the problems. I mean I know one person that had a shit load of problems with their Neon but I can tell you this, the car would be just fine if the person didn't beat the shit out of it and drove it like a sane person.
