I've noticed on my neon, whenever I hit uneven pavement (say, grooves on a freeway) at like 45+ mph, the car just really does not handle the unevenness at all.... it just rides terrible...

I have an 05' SXT stock, is this just the way the stock suspension is or is this just those craptacular tires that came with the neon?

crappy tires! The stock neon suspension is actually decent.

Once I got rid of the stock tires, it handled much better.

Thats good to hear.. i mean yeah the suspension i hear is good, just those tires, you can tell they aren't exactly awesome.. nor good.. nor even satisfactory...

The stock tires are plain old shitty!!! You should really get some 205's, and since '05's didn't have a rear sway-bar, you should get one of those too.

I totally roasted those stock 185's, and it didn't even show on the treads.

Yeah for sure I want some wider ones... had 205's on my old car and loved em'....

also for the rear sway.. easy install? i'm assuming eBay it or what?

I would recomend 205-55-15 tires as there is an affordable, wide selection of them.

to mount a rear sway on your car you will need mounting brackets, http://www.neongoodies.com , that mount to your existing struts or buy different rear struts that have brackets already on them.

I'm assuming the stock '03+ SXT struts do not have the mounting points?

I'm thinking more about doing this now. Definitely not a bad idea.

I belive only 2000's had a rea sway as standard equitment, along with R/T's and srt's. The rest do not have the mounting points on the struts, hence the need for different struts or mounting brackets

Where do you guys normally get your tires / get them installed at...

I bought my current tires from http://www.discounttire.com. I then got them mounted at the local Wal-mart, but typicaly i would have my dad mount them as he works at a dealership.

i have found that online stores are typically cheaper (including shipping) then most fixed based operations.

Interesting.. you would think shipping tires would not be too cheap...

My 2k1 has stock struts and they have the mounting points and everything except the damned bar. So dont panic, some of you 2001+ might have the sway bar mounting points... They look like this:

I wasn't positive when they stopped with the rear sway but for sure 2002+ did not have them as standard equitment. MSE's may also have gotten r/t stuts as part of the package ????

I used to order tires online, but now I have a 'sponsor' order tires and do all my mounting and balancing. Tires cost (wholesale prices) and mounting and balancing is free.

2002+ dont have rear mounting points except the R/T's and SRT's

How much does walmart charge for mounting tires?

I'd take it somewhere a little more reliable than Walmart, Neons are very sensitive to wheel balance and I doubt the people working at walmart give a hoot how close they get your wheels in balance.

walmart charged me like $37 or something. I was in a bind and needed to get them mounted. they will be remounted and balanced by my dad (a 35+ year vetern mechanic) when i go visit the family in 2 weeks. i can't complane about the guy who mounted my tires at wally-world tho. not a single viberation and it tracks straight as can be.

i guess it didn't hurt that i sat and stared at the guy the entire time he was working on my car

typically i don't let anyone touch my car. but the guy at wall-car did a decent job. i think he knew it wasn't a soccer-mom neon when he started it up he even mounted them in the correct orietation

on a side note, the "professional" tire place that i got a quote from first said $45, then he asked to see the car..... the he said $75, becuase you know the tires are difficult to mount on a neon

I can't believe how craptacular the Neon tires are. When I bought it, I thought they'd be wonderful tires, seeing that they're from Goodyear and not really having heard any Goodyear horror stories.

But yeah, about a week ago, I was having a bad day (the kind of days on which I drive crappiest), only to be made worse by my friend asking for a ride home from the doctor after she recovered from heat stroke. (So sad...she's had more than her fair share of health problems, and she's my age!) But anyway, I parked in a spot with a curb to the left side. When I pulled into the space, I rubbed the side of my left front tire on the curb and popped it! I've never done *that* before, and I've jumped more than my fair share of curbs, too.

I can't wait until I can afford to replace all of my tires. Shoot, I've got to replace that one with a stock tire because I can't afford to replace the other three stock tires.

do not rule out 185 width tires. i currently have yokohama avid trz's in the 185/60/15 size. they are absolutly amazing all season tires. i currently have almost 20000miles on them, very little wear. traction is superb and ride is good too.

this is my second set of yokohama tires (i have a set on my monte) and am very pleased with both.

i had i think dominators on my blue car... they didnt hold up well at all... the tread life was terrible, they were rated for 60000 miles... and they didnt even last 20000... I had 2 flats within a week... i went over some train tracks and after about 10 mins... the tire was flat... the otherone was from me getting in a fight with a curb... so those were replaced... the tread on the orginial 2 were almost racing slicks.... and the 2 new ones were already at 50% life after about 10,000 miles...

right now i think i have michellin on my black one... they seem to be holding up pretty nice, and ride quality is pretty good too. nice, quiet, and smooth... i can hear the music in my car

the yokos are rated for 80000 miles. i would be surprised if i didnt get atleast 70000 miles out of them (im a little hard on my tires).

the best part was they cost ~$325 bought, shipped, mounted and balanced.

bought them from tirerack.com and had them mounted and balanced locally.

Hmm... would 205/60R15's be pretty good too?

I have the stock 15" alloys on my car so...

205-55-15 is best IMO.
