computer geeks: i've got a codec issue

Post by jonnymopar » Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:18 pm

I've got an AVI file that has no sound in any of my players. It's in DivX format. DivX player gives me the following message:

The file contains a track in the Windows Media Audio (WMA) (code "353") format. You may need to install a DirectShow decoder for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack of this file.

Now, DirectShow is part of DirectX, right? I just installed the latest DirectX and it still gives me the same error. I've searched around and all I've found is that "code 353" is the same as "WMA2" format. I can't find a download for either. I tried installing the latest codec packages from Microsoft and that didn't do it either. I'm currently running 2000 Pro.

Any help?

Try K-Lite Codec pack. I had the same problem, and I downloaded a 60 day free trial of it, and it worked just fine. Hope this helps.

don't bother with the codec packs.. i used to use them but in the end it's just a hassle because it gives you 10 different codecs that can all play all the filetypes and its just a big mess

the only "pack" i've ended up using is ffdshow and sometimes ac3filter.

ffdshow plays all audio/video files (including ac3), and ac3 plays ac3 (obviously) but has some better support for ac3 over ffdshow (sometimes).

give ffdshow a try (make sure you set the audio codec configuration)

For the record, the sound track is just bad seventies 'wah wah' pedals and some moaning and groaning. Oh yeah, you may hear, "Howdy ma'am, I heard you had some clogged holes that needed some cleaning out?"
