My wife drove the car today here in NewYork State. She drove 20min from my parents house to our home and when she was turning onto our street here in the City of Lockport she got pulled over.....
The cop hit her with these:

and she got this...
Sec 375 Sub 31 - Noisy Modified Muffler

Im on google right now searching everything from NYS traffic law to SEMA.. anyone that can post any info to help out is apreciated!!!
So far Tues im going to take my car to the NYS trooper barrics to see if they can verify a few things....
Also I'm going to turn on my AIM right now so anyone can contact me ASAP vs PM...
Thanks again...

I think that would be your best bet. I don't know NY state law. And I'm fairly vague on Ohio law... only knowing what I learned years ago. But basically you'll need proof of what is on your car and also knowledge of the limitations of NY law. Example.... ohio tint law is 50% all the way around.... In order to prove that my car is not below that, I would need a statement from the tint shop showing that.

Good luck man...

31. Mufflers and exhaust systems. Prevention of noise. Every motor
vehicle, operated or driven upon the highways of the state, shall at all
times be equipped with an adequate muffler and exhaust system in
constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or
unusual noise and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped
with a cut-out, bypass, or similar device. No person shall modify the
muffler or exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will
amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor or exhaust system of
such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler or exhaust system
originally installed on the vehicle and such original muffler and
exhaust system shall comply with all the requirements of this section.
A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle
plates, or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust
gas from an internal combustion engine, and effective in reducing noise.
An exhaust system is a series of mechanical devices for the purpose of
receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and expelling
it into the atmosphere.
(2) the sidewings or side windows of which on either side forward of
or adjacent to the operator's seat are composed of, covered by or
treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than
seventy percent; or
(read: must let in at least 70% of light (does that mean 30% tint?))

http://law.onecle.com/new-york/vehicle- ... 5_375.html

a few tint law websites all say 70%, and the full "path" to the law is Chapter 775, Title III, Article 9, Section 375, Subdivision 12-16
(d) The commissioner may test any window for a person who has been
charged with violating this subdivision. If such window is found to be
in conformity with this subdivision, a small label attesting to the
conformity shall be affixed to the window tested.

now if your 11% means its only passing 11% light, you got no out.. if its only 11% tint then the cop can bite you

Those stupid machines suck. I had 35% tint on my car in Ohio and the cop pulled me over, tested my windows and said I had 10% tint on there. Could I argue? How could I prove it? I showed a reciept. Judge told me I was still in the wrong since the law is for 50% tint.

Thanks for the posts of the laws, I found them also....
As for the tint and ex im having a state trooper help me with them...
The sad part is you can see clear as day into my front windows too...
And according to NYS law, the dealer should not have sold me the car that way since it would not pass inspection. Im going to bring it up to the service manager to give him a heads up since we sold alot of used cars with tinted windows that apparently are illegal

Well as it stands right now I cant get out of the muffler ticket unless I get a document stating that I re-installed the factory muffle(fixed it)...
NYS exhaust law sucks, that means anyone with a modded exhaust, bikes, trucks, cars etc...is illegal in NYS.....And go figure the one day my wife drives the car she gets nailed....
As for the window tint, I'm going to drive to a local NYS trooper barrack to see if they can test it for me.....grrr...
