Need info on how to recover lost files from a CD......

Post by BlackRoseRacing » Tue Jan 18, 2005 6:36 pm

We'll rescently my computer took a sh%t and I upgraded to a bigger and better hard drive. GREAT!!!
Now the problem is im trying to get my website back up and running and the files on my CDRW are corrupted....it takes a few seconds to open a pic and I can not copy or paste them to recover them. I can view them, but that is it.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to or software to recover lost files like this let me know. Its pretty bad this one disc does not have a backup, and everything I have done or built in the past 10years is on this one disc. All my car projects, tuning info etc......

grab isobuster ( http://www.isobuster.com ) it can copy the complete disc to a folder, and has a pretty good error recovery. and its a free tool

but i dont think this is the correct forum to post this, maybe in "Off-Topic"

I know its off topic, but...im sure many have ran across the same prob. This disc(a CDRW) was just updated to ad my R/T neonm. and after that it was pretty much in-accessable. You can view the files, but not safe them.
I took the disc to work for a guy that owes me a faivure. He uses a $6000 apple G5 and can do just about anything, or so he claims. So far I had more luck using my 480mhz clocked PC with a program called BadCopyPro. I have been able to restore more files, BUT I cant save them because there only demo programs...
Anywho

Try using a program CDRoller, it's a Demo so PM me about it

Now onto a different topic...
This forum is dead so.......DIABLO kill it off.........C-YA from BRR
Dead??? Now I know we only have 380 something members but I consider it far from beind dead. This isn't neons.org or SRTforums where they have thousands of memebers and at any given time have 20-30+ memebers on at one time. If people had this attitude then yes this forum would die out and become a lost cause but as I stated when I first made the forum...
I'll go as far as everyone else is willing to go. By that I mean if you use it I'll use it and keep the site up to date and actually put some time and effort into making it a decent board. If the board doesn't attract attention and no one uses it then I won't either and it'll slowly die. It's up to you guys/gals... the users.
I can't force people to use the forum but I do think we have a lot of loyal members that really enjoy coming here (To all those memebers I really do want to say a big Thank You). If people got discouraged so fast like you might have b/c of the small member base compared to other forums, then yes the forum won't go anywhere and slowly die. Though I think a lot of memebers realize this and do want a refuge away from the .org with all the (sorry but I have to say it) dumbass members there. For not putting the forum on Google or any other search engine I think it's doing very well by drawling in people just by word of mouth.

I hope you really don't get discouraged so fast, the memebers are what make the forum. Yeah it might take longer to get the answer you want but every forum started that way, it takes time to build up a member base to a point where you'll get a response 5min after you ask your question.

don't sweat it Diablo.... Brr has no clue.

Online forums are about community. Yes, they are a great place to get a tech question answered or research a new mod before you drop your piggy bank on it... but it is also about a hang out. Its the new "corner bar" where everyone knows your name.

There are forums on the internet for literally everything... from albino 3-legged dog owners ...to Geo Metro owners (yes they do have their own forum for the 3-cyl cars)... and all forums have the peaks and valleys as far as membership , participation, and quality/quanity posting goes...when you actively participate on a forum, you are participating in a community with our own quacks, wierdos, old guys, chicks, geeks, and fanatics... and together they make up 2gn.org.

ok im sorry, I just expected this forum to be a flop since it TECHNICALLY is not car related. But for me this forum is a big help, since the last 10 years of research from the 2.2sohc-3.0sohc are all on this ONE disc, and I need to recover as much as I can........
FYI - - - CDRW's DO NOT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used the same CDRW for the past year and RW 5 times.....well, come to find out its cheaper to use a CDR versus CDRW, esecially when all your research and projects are on only one CD.
YES, I should of had numerous backups, BUT I just upgraded my hard drive and info and since then I had alot of valuable info lost.
ANYWAYS,
I want to ask the computer hacker, or geek to help me out in this forum, I dont want to pay some stranger to try to recover this disc. DIABLO, I thank you dearly for the support.....
Thanks again....ALL 2GN'S

^^^
Dude you must be bored to bring this one back
Back in 2005 I listened to a member and sent my disk to:
http://acodisc.com/
Here is the last email I received from them:
Dear Mr. Swiatowy:

The internal spot located close to the inner circle of your CD-RW makes
your data inaccessible. The chances to recover your file is very low;
however, before we give you the final result, we are going to try other
techniques. We will contact you as soon as possible with the final
results.

If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you

Its now Dec 2006 and they have yet to respond to any of my emails, they have not even sent the disc back.....I wish I never sent the disc to them for file recovery because I could have recovered it by now, or atleast still had the disc to even try too....

Old thread.

I just reformatted my computer and getting everything back was a pain, especially remembering passwords for all my sites.

Not a problem Danny! All those porn sites usually send confirmations to your email address anyways.

cd-r's/cd-rw's only last 2-3 yr according to pc mag. never rely on them, its better having it on a hard drive or a online data storage website.

I wonder what will end up lasting longer: a typical CD-RW or activity in this thread?
