2GN.org Radio In The Making...

I figured I'd bring it up in here first since it's still in development...
I purchased a SHOUTcast server yesterday to start 2GN.org Radio after talking to Diablo0 about it. I think it'll be fun. It'll basically be a commercial-free internet radio station mostly dedicated to the 2GN.org community. After I get everything up and running seamlessly, I'll start recruiting people to help DJ to keep the stream up as much as possible. I'll be able to have my computer connected to the stream overnight and through the morning hours, but the afternoon and evening might be difficult. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Anyways... I'd like to maybe have some radio shows here and there and give the DJ's something like 2 hours shifts to come on, DJ, and talk about whatever they want whether it pertains to Neons or DCx, car performance, etc... Basically whatever they feel like having a show about.
Just figured I'd get everyone's opinions and let everyone know. A site will be established as well with information on the radio portion of 2GN, and that site (radio.2GN.org) will go up sometime soon.
I'd like to get everything running and get it launched by next weekend.
Let the comments pour in.

BTW, I added the stream URL to the main post I made. Tune in if you'd like, but a fair warning... It's still in 'Beta' and you may not get anything at all... You might get me talking and making no sense testing settings, etc...

I wonder how much it is to license a song for public performance on Internet radio.

I've reviewed quite a few laws and licensing information pertaining to public broadcast of MP3's via the internet and nothing we are doing is illegal. Thank you for your concern, though.
And, for the record, there are over 20,000 internet radio stations that are doing the same thing.

That's awesome. I'd DJ but I can pretty much guarntee no one has ever even heard of what I listen to.
Edit, wow I'm a retard, I didn't realize the DJing was pretaning to just talking and what not. But either way, this is exciting.

No, the DJ will also be playing music during their show. It'll be up to the DJ's creativity and imagination to plan their own personal show, whether it's about Neons or not. I'd like to keep the radio station's music genre to New Rock and Classic Rock... Indie Rock is also alright, as well... Keeping the station along those lines for the genre will help the ranking better.
I should also mention that the stream server is currently only set at 10 slots. 10 concurrent listeners... If it becomes a problem (which wouldn't really be a problem, because it'd be nice to have more listeners), I'll upgrade the server to 20 listeners and more after that if we need to. With upgrading the listener slots, comes more cost, though... Which I may end up asking for donations for the stream. Neither I or Jason are going to be making any money from this, as that would be illegal anyways, so any donations at anytime would be greatly appreciated and 100% will go towards the stream hosting.

I'm sure we could make a few exceptions... I'd just to hate to have a station with every genre under the sun because it'd be hard to stay ranked. But then again, it's for the 2GN Community, so 'ef the others.

You could setup your own 2 hour show with whatever music, really...

If you'd like to throw some money my way, I'd be more than happy to increase the quality of the audio for you.
Now for the
non-smartass answer: It's 56kbps Stereo mainly because when I ordered the stream, I wasn't sure what everyone's input would be and I didn't want to waste money. If it gets to the point where people actually enjoy the station being around and it appears worth the upgrades, I'll upgrade the audio quality and the number of listener slots. I'm paying for everything right out of my pocket, so donations are definitely welcome. When it comes time to add more slots, I'll see what I can afford to upgrade to, if I can.
And for everyone that's interested in DJ'ing for the station... I'm putting together a couple of guides and some detailed information on what you need to do, etc... Just post up here if you're interested in a DJ slot and what time(s) you'd be available to DJ and on what days. I'd like to split everything up into two hour 'shifts'... Two hours usually works pretty good for everyone... Not too long and boring, but it gives you enough time to play to get the DJ craving taken care of.
More details to come...

Keep in mind that when I'm not around, my computer has a mind of it's own.

It's set to randomly select songs from my library. I currently have it set (when I'm not around) to play 2 'New Rock' songs, a Station ID, 2 'Classic Rock' songs, another Station ID, then it repeats that cycle.
Glad to see that someone likes it!
Edit: And now if I could get my PC to quit randomly dropping the internet, I'd be all set. I hate XP.

My PC will occassionally drop the internet and the only way to restore it is to reboot my machine.

That sucks about your computer effin up. I actually like the quality of the music. It makes it sounds like a true "radio" station.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's wrong with my PC... It's been doing it since I formatted last, but I think I
might have found the problem. I guess I'll find out when I wake up - If the stream is still up and playing.
As for the quality, it's a decent quality... If I were to upgrade, I'd like to go with 96kbps... It's almost comparable to CD quality, but I know what you mean about the 'radio station' sound.
Edit: Nice sig!

Yes, I made it myself.

Ahaha not really. I need to figure out, how to incorporate a linky on the sig so whoever clicks on it can listen to music.

Just and idea for you guys who expressed interest but don't play "mainstream" stuff.
A lot of people listen to regular radio all the time in their cars, at work, etc. They hear the same songs over and over and over.
Personally, I'd much rather listen to a show where the DJ will play stuff you don't hear every hour.
Just some food for thought. That said, I wish I still had a functioning PC so I could partake in the dj'ing... I really miss doing it. Alas, I have yet to master using the Mac, and it's only a laptop, so the soundcard sucks on it.
