Extended warranty rip-off

Some firm called Continental Warranty sent me a form letter "informing" me that the warranty on my SRT is "about to expire or has expired." I purchased the car new in May of this year and it has less than 8K miles on it! Plus I purchased a 7/70 Maximum Care Service Contract with a $0 deductible from Chrysler on the day of purchase. When I called to ask to be removed from Continental's mailing list, their rep insisted that they had information from Dodge that showed that I have no warranty on the car. Continental pulled this stunt with the two previous 2GNs that I've owned (I had extended factory warranties on both of these cars as well). Beware! :x

That's true. What really irritates me is how this rep was extremely confident about how Dodge had given him this "information" about my vehicle (plus name, address, year and make, etc.). I don't like being on mailing lists and have asked this stupid firm to remove me from their list two times before. The next communication from them will result in my complaining to my Postmaster and the BBB. :x

By the way, they also have equipment to get around blocking your number on Caller ID (I found this out when I called them yesterday morning, much to my dismay).

Yeah, the BBB should be able to nip that in the bud... I hate those damn mailing list. Makes me feel violated. These other business sell my info, and for CHEAP!

Who exactly is your service contract through?

BBB won't get ya much, they just send a letter to the company and monitor their contact back to you for a follow-up to make sure the issue is resolved then it goes on their rating which not many people really check anymore

Not entirely true. If you buy a car at a used car lot, i'd recommend getting a warranty. Mabe i just got lucky, but when i bought a used car, i bought a 6 month powertrain warranty, and low and behold, 4 months later, i had $1000 worth of repairs done to the engine. I paid $100

Just do you research first i guess

I check a firm's BBB rating if I'm not familiar with the company. If all my complaining does is to be an irritant to Continental, it will be worth my time.

It's a Chrysler extended factory warranty, purchased at the Dodge dealership where I bought my SRT.

Don't get all excited. Everyone gets junk mail everyday. That's why we have local landfills...

You miss the point-- this is an invasion of my privacy plus I wanted to warn fellow 2GN'ers about a rip-off. And no sense wasting trees for junk mail.

Yeah, I always check the BBB on unfamiliar companies, too, after working for my last boss. He was a f*cking joke.

Consider what the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has to say about automobile service contracts:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/autoserv.htm

Check out the "Complaints" section if you want to do more, including reporting it to the FTC. I'd recommend doing that, since they really are deceiving lots of people by making unsubstantiated claims that turn out to be false a lot of the time.

Thanks for the info. If I hadn't gotten ticked and shredded the letter, I would contact the FTC about this. When I get another letter from Continental (and I'm sure that I will), I'll hold my temper and keep the letter so that I can file a complaint.
