anyone here from michigan and know the laws pretty well?

Post by Liz » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:38 pm

so last night i got pulled over by a state trooper..
he was nice i guess but yeah, he pulled me over for my window tint

i got a fix it ticket, i now have 19 days to get it fixed or pay the fine ...

now if i pay the ticket, do i still get my license suspended,
someone told me that things like that don't give you points..

or should i swap my friends windows for a day..show a cop i fixed it , and put em back in.. lol [i want to do this, i just think it'd be funny because 2 hours later i would roll by with them tinted again, lol  ]i paid almost 200 bucks for my tint and ripping it off isn't what i want to do

so questions i need answered are

1. does it give you points if you don't fix it but pay it
2. does my license get suspended if i don't fix it but pay it.

I can only speak from my experiences in Ohio. A window tint law is not a moving violation and is not considered a "point" ticket. But they can have your car impounded for failure to obide by state laws yada yada.... after a period of so long of being impounded the car can be released back to you, a court date set and then you have to show up with proof that the tint has been removed. In ohio as far as I know you couldn't lose your license for this.

Question is.... How dark is your tint? And what is your states legal limit? Was a light transmittance meter used on the car to test the tint?

no he didn't test it..

my tint is 20 % all the way around

and i think the states legal limit is basically nothing
um the officer told me last night that i could have 4" from the top of the window down but that was it.

that's why i like to be registered in ohio, so when i drive to michigan, they don't give me shit about my tint... even though it's illeagal in both states.

you have the front window strip I'm guessing? They don't like those. I would take that off if you have to show a cop.

Most states go with 35% tint on the windows since that is what most vehicles will come with out of the factory if they have factory tint.

If you have a friend that is a lawyer he/she can take care of it but if not pay the fine.

If you have to show a cop swap the windows and go on with your business. Next time roll down your windows (at least the front 2) when you get pulled over so light comes in. I used to have 5% all the way around and cops didn't bother me cause I would roll the windows down and let in light so they can see inside. Also turn your dome light on.

1. You wont get points for a fix it ticket
2. Your license wont get suspended

Tint on your front to windows and windshield is ILLEGAL in Michigan. The only tint allowed on the front two windows is a two inch stripe along the top. Your back three windows can be tinted to any darkness that you please.

There is no Points in MI for Tint. If you pay it you dont have to remove it.
2. does my license get suspended if i don't fix it but pay it.
No you just pay the fine.

I got the same ticket like 3 times before. They usually never go outside to look if you taken it off. I went when it was cold and they wouldnt walk outside. I payed once and took it off the next time so I didnt have to pay.

Screw all that, go to a doctor (hopefully you know someone friendly enough to do this) and get him to write a legal note saying that you need the tint because the glare is to strong without it for daily driving.

Yes my friend also got that note. Prob is in MI you also have to go a now get it put on your license. I had to goto a certain selected few eye doctors and get an eye exam. Way to much work just to have tint but he finally got it. If you just show them the note any more you still get the ticket and you just have to deal with it at court
