computer guru help.

Post by boostinss » Wed Mar 14, 2007 10:55 pm

Well i am buying a differnet laptop because the one i have wont play counter-Strike: source.

would any of these laptops work to run counter-strike: source.

i am not looking at huge FPS numbers, but something around 40-50fps on medium settings.

lmk if any of those would work and which one would be the best out of those.

Out of those... doing a quick search on benchmarks and reviews people tend to agree that the Xpress Mobility 200M and 1100 graphics cards aren't made for gaming but finding a gaming laptop at a decent price is going to e hard if not impossible. Will it run on medium, people tend to think that it will and benchmarks aren't too bad for them. Both cards are about on par with each other with the 200M maybe pulling ahead ever so slightly but not by much.

Processor wise, the Turion is faster in benchmarks so I'd go with that one then the Seperon then Celeron but the Seperon and Celeron are fairly close. The Turion competes close with the P4 where the Seperon competes with the Celeron. Best choice out of them is probably the 2nd one ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834115283 ) but battery life may be an issue. The Seperon looks to have the best battery life but you'll sacrifice performance.

Will it run WoW though, I'd say yes....

To be honest "gaming" laptops are a ripoff. Why spend $2000+ on a laptop when you can build a killer gaming desktop and buy a descent laptop for less. You did get a pretty good deal though, usually the "sale" laptops screw you on ram and HD space. You will be able to run WoW on it, as it runs on my infamous $378 Wal-Mart laptop that ive upgraded to a gig of ram and a faster HD.

ok.. one thing i saw by just skimming this post... celeron and sempron..

if your buying anything for gaming, NEVER, i repeat, NEVER buy anything with a celeron or sempron. They are the lowest end processors you can get, and arent made for gaming what-so-ever. Those are more... checking email / using notepad processors.

Agreed, They aren't for high end PCs doing video or graphic editing, only for the normal routine of checking e-mail, surfing the web... things like that.

Alienware... yah, wayyy overpriced last time I looked at them... only reason I'd have a gaming laptop is if I was on the road a lot and used it to kill time in the airport. Gaming laptop usually doesn't mean a small laptop either so I'd think of a gaming laptop more of a desktop replacement.
