My hard drive is about to die in my ibook. Its the clicking sound that some mac uses get before their HD dies on them. Any one know what the hell I should do?
-Back it all up?
-Only important stuff?

Back up all your personal files and any programs you don't still have the discs for.

Its always a good idea to back up your stuff.. Just because your HD is clicking doesn't mean its about to go out. I have a laptop and it started doing that a month after I got it.. 2 1/2 years later its still making that noise and still running strong. I thought apple had some pretty good warranties on there stuff.. How old is it?? Go to http://www.pricewatch.com and find out the price of a new one "if they have one" Cheapest place I've seen comp parts so far.. Then have a computer geek friend install it for you. If I am not mistaken the Apple Laptops, you have to remove the keyboard to get to the internals. Its quite easy if you take your time at it. Just plug and play.. Plus I hope you still have you factory disks that came with it...

Yea, I'm pretty sure its going to die. Its about 5 years old now, so no more warranty. I started to back up most of the pics I have taken. The only problem is that some can not be copied because of a "disk error". Not sure what to do about that.

Get yourself an External USB 2.0 Hard Drive and just snd everything you want saved from your old HD to the External, that way when it dies you can just copy everything back over to the new HD/Comp and still have most everything backed up.

If you are getting disk errors you are on your way to a hard drive crash pretty soon.. Not sure if apple has a program like windows has scandisk.. Try running that first and see if that helps any.. Then buy a new hard drive.. See if the site I gave you have any for cheap and install it yourself.. Not really hard to do..

Well, I'm almost done backing it all up. I turned down my virtual memory to the lowest it will go. That helped take the strain off the HD too.
