I used to work there years ago, thank god I don't anymore. Hated it.

Anyways, when it comes to employee discounts the cashier has to put in the employee's number and it can only be used by the employee or employee's mother and father. They really frown on employees giving it to anyone else and you can be fired over it. So without someone actually going with you it might be hard.

Granted this was about 4 years ago so maybe it's changed. Good luck.

^ it's still the same way i couldnt get my boys to do it for me and its three of them that work there the only way was for me to give them the money and they get it for me but the problem was that they already bought the game so they said that they would get caught trying to buy it twice.

That's what I thought. It's definately not worth trying to scam them either because if the rest of the stores are like the one I worked for they dont' give a f--- if they have to fire you. They have a file cabinet full of applications, the turn around at that place is rediculous.

I'm a Magnolia Home Theater Supervisor for BBY.

I LOVE MY JOB!

They changed the Discount policy. Only you, your dependents, and spouse can use it now and you have to have ID.

The best way to get a discount is to buy a bunch of accessories. Just buying the TV won't give you shit. Make sure you ask about the HDTV Advantage. Could save you $300 on your purchase. And if you were a Reward Zone member you could use your coupons.

Reward Zone Mastercard is another good way to go. You get $25 in gift card form in the mail for signing up and you get 4% back on all purchases at Best Buy. We also have 18mo No interest financing on the Regular BBY card

(oh on a side bar.. Don't buy a Toshiba Plasma. They are terrible. and don't read Consumer Reports when deciding to buy a TV. They are biased. They actually rate a couple TVs ahead of the Pioneer Elites, which have the best 3:3 pulldown and overall picture, For what reason? I have No idea... terrible Magazine. It would be like a Kia getting higher ratings than a Lambo.. EH!)

Good ol' Best Buy mindset/strategy. Buy a bunch of stuff that we make all our money on (accessories) and we will give you a slight break. Also known as, convince the customer to buy stuff they don't want or need by making them think they are saving money, even though they end up spending more then they went in to spend.

I very rarely shop at BB anymore and when I do it's only to take advantage of the $9.99 cds. Those damn magazine offers are irritating as fuck though, same with the product replacement. :banghead:

The Magazines and PRP/PSP stuff isnt push as much as it used to be.

What I have my team focus on is "Completing the Solution"

We never sell stuff that a customer isnt going to need. We make sure that we get them everything that they need for the Home Theater system to work as though it should and thats it.

I wouldnt sell anything to a customer that I myself wouldnt buy. Hell I've used the PSP on my 42" Samsung DLP twice already. We have alot of Power Surges here in Florida and I feel better with my Monster Power Center. I only use M-Series Cables because of my own testing inside my Audio Room. Oxygen Free Speaker Wire, I hate how quickly things rust down here, I love my Def Tech Speakers and Denon Reciever. My OTA antenna is a lifesaver, What could be better than HD for free? :)

Sounds like you worked for one of the Bad Best Buys. We have one down the road from the one I work at. It's completely different when you walk in there. We are focused on the Customer Experience and Employee Experience at mine. Where Behaviors = Results. Some of them out there Focus on the Numbers and do what I call "Slave Drive."

Office Depot has 47" HDTVs for 699.00 right now. Belive its samsung

I was torn I almost got one but I'd spent so much on the neon it would have been puting a gun to my head and pulling the trigger from a money point of view.

Don't buy TVs from Office Depot. Go look at it and then walk into a Best Buy and you'll see why it's so cheap.

I believe the only flat panels they sell are Viewsonic and Olevia.

You're right, the store I worked at and pretty much every store around it was and still is focused only on numbers. The majority of my big electronics purchases are done at Costco now. That's simply because I've had horrible experiences as an employee and a customer at Best Buy, and Circuit City flat out just sucks. I'm not saying all BB's are horrible but from my experience ALOT of them are.

Which is something they are working hard to change. Focusing on the Experience is aHUGE Focus right now. It's the only way an Electronics Retailer can survive in this world of Mass merchandiser's. (Wal-Mart) There's a reason the Circuit, and CompUSA, Tweeder, and companies like that are having to close stores and lay off people. BBY hasnt had to do that yet because of their willingless to change.

I bought my HP notebook at a CompUSA. They were $100 cheaper than Best Buy, Circuit City, ect.... Just as cheap as any online stores too. But it was during CompUSA's anniversiry sale earlier this year.

Got my 50" Toshiba DLP in my living room, went ahead and bought a Blue Ray Player as well.........Now all I need to do is upgrade my directv to HD programming.

By the way Mox, I couldn't find the antenna you were talking about.....but if it is one that goes outside, I will pass for now as I live in an apartment, and I don't want to go climbing around on my roof. I did get the monster line converter/conditioner or whatever it is though.
