I agree with Opi about the post count helping in the FS/WTB section. The reason it works on the SRT forums with no post count it because they have a more built in feedback where the persons feedback is actually linked to their profile.

If it doesn't affect people who are looking for useful information that has already been posted, or are asking for information in a new post, leave it alone. on that same note, if someone looking for useful information has to skim thru eleventeen posts by the same person in a thread, there's probably a problem. there's an edit button for a reason. maybe the whoring should just be kept to the off-topic forum (sorry to whoever mod's that section lol). as far as conversations go, that's what the chat room is for, or PM's.
That's just my opinion, don't slam me, cause you have an asshole too.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.Opi wrote:I like the post number, just becuase it shows how active a user is.
SPECIALLY when it comes to buying something. If they're really active here, then you can trust 'em a bit more.
Plus, well I have had a few purchases here where the seller says they will leave feedback, so I leave them feedback and then they never do, which kind of pisses me off to be honest. But that is a whole different ball game.

Yeah, I agree.SILVER-ES wrote:I have no problem with what you do, like I've said in multiple posts now, the mods just seem to lack consistency. Kind shots down the whole postwhore topic this thread brought up when someone completelty unrelated goes and does the same thing.
Here's what I think should be done, if it's possible with the forum software configuration - Remove post counts on all posts and threads within the 'Off-Topic' forum - It's already been done with the 'Introduce Yourself' forums. This will also reinforce the 'reputation' theory that some are throwing around. It will also show who actually contributes the most helpful information to the boards and will help deter certain users from participating in the 'emoticon-fest' threads just to bump their post counts, etc. You guys are right - It's an Off-Topic forum and any type of thread should be able to be started providing it follow the board rules, etc. Start a thread about your hangnail, if you wish. It's Off-Topic, just keep it in the Off-Topic forums, but don't expect your post counts to jump up for providing us with hangnail treatment information and pictures.
That's how I feel. I never meant to sound like I'm targeting TNK at all, minus my avatar which I primarily made as a joke, because he brought it on himself, essentially.
Overall, that's how I feel and I'm going to work with Jason and push it as hard as I can to make this happen. If people don't like it, I'm sorry.

I gotta admit, sorry mike, but it IS annoying to look through all the topics, and see you post 15 times in a thread. Although, I don't think it matters.
I don't think the post count should change. I like the way things are laid out. I stick with what I said about the for sale part. I will not buy from someone unless they've been around here for awhile.
I just think, all the mods need to get together and decide something. If you have nothing to say that pertains to the thread in any way, shape, or form... I don't think you should post. It should just be a rule.
Just to hop in and go "
" and nothing else, shouldn't be allowed. Small things like that. All that sort of thing does it bump post count.
I'll stop here actually. I shouldn't have to say anything, it should be up to the mods and mods alone.

well opi the one thing i don't agree on is the hop in and just post a little smilie. i do that a lot actually. it's more or less because i don't really have much to say about it. haha. oh well. everyone is different. in all honesty i never even think about post count, or think that i am post whoring. i just pop on say what i want to, and jam out. meh, i don't really need to explain myself, but felt the need to.

I know it might not be appropriate for TNK's 15K post, but I just have an idea.
On talkbass.com they have an option where you can block a user, so when you see their post, it says something like "so and so made a post, click here to read it" in the replies. Seems like a cool idea eh?

I too have been a "post whore" as of late. but I guess I too will limit my posts due to the fact that alot of times I have nothing really "important" to say. I just come in here and post in topics that I happen to have some interest in and alot of times it's just a smiley I add...I see where the mods are coming from because I used to run a forum for an online gaming clan awhile back. but I also thought this was a place where we could be ourselves and talk to people. If I have offended anybody I apologize.... Later...SILVER-ES wrote:I give up, I tried TiNK. I'll give myself a post limit, self inflicted.

To everyone... I will be locking this thread. Please do not take it as me ignoring the situation as I'm discussing this with the moderators. Everyones opinions and views on the matter are being taken into consideration while we discuss everything...
