God Damn I hate Dealerships So Bad

Alright I will try to make a long story somewhat short, so here I go.

Leslies 04 neon we noticed was loosing oil. We would change the oil and of course check it here and there between oil changes. All of a sudden no oil was showing up on her dipstick or on just the last 1/4" of it. I would top it off, would take oh i think 1-2 quarts to get it in the safe zone. So car is out of its normal warranty but we have the exteneded(what a joke). So we took it to the retardship, told them the problem. They diagnosed it as a bad crank seal. In my mind I knew that wasnt the problem. I saw a little sippage, at the seal, but nothing more than normal and not enough to be loosing that much oil in less than 3,000 miles.

But the dealership insisted that was the problem. So we had to pay the $100 deductable to use our "extened warranty" so they would fix the seal. This was oh a 2-3 months ago we had this done. Well right after we picked it up Leslie sayed it was vibrating really bad and making bad noises when she started it up. I told her to call the dealership back and get it taken back in as they probably screwed it up. We got it back in a month after they did the work. They looked it over and said we dont see anything wrong, bring it back when you can better pin point where the noise is coming from. I was like what the hell, you idiots are supposed to be the trained mechanics, I am just a shade tree mechanic, but whatever. So i got busy with my job and working on my car I neglected the neon :beatstick: shame on me right.

I am on vacation since we just had our baby, so today I went and gave the car a real thorough look over. Put it on stands, checked the exhaust for clearance, checked the physical condition of the crank pulley, checked the bottom engine mount. nothing appeared wrong there. So i checked the top engine mount after i put the car on the ground. I couldnt move it side to side. What the hell I was thinking. So i proceeded to take it off to see what the problem was. And thats when i saw it, so obvious I cant believe I over looked it :banghead: The damn dealership put the upper engine mount on wrong. They basically flip flopped the mount. Here is a pic after i put the mount on right. You can see where it was hitting against the engine. So I flipped it around, started the car and what do you know. No more noise, no more abnormal vibration. Took it for a drive and it was back to pre-dealership status. I am freakin so happy had to pat myself on the back while kicking my own ass for not checking this out sooner.

Oh and I am right about our loss of oil not being the crank seal. Checked the oil while under the hood. Only reading on the very bottom of the stick. Going back to the retardship and telling them they didnt fix the problem, that they misdiagnosed the problem. I really dont want them touching it again though, probably screw something else up.

i think every neon looses oil like that....in about 3,000 miles i usually maybe put 1/2 to 1 quart of oil in my neon

i use 1qt to 1.5qt in 5000 miles.

J-Villa I never used more than 1/4qt of oil in my 2000 neon. Leslies car would seem to be going through 1-2qrts in less than 3000 miles. Not a normal thing.

yeah I'm about 1qt per 3000 miles too.

I'd say check it everyday for 2 weeks and see if the oil is slowly going down or not. But with that much oil lose you should see puddles.

check you valve cover gasket first cause when i got my car the gasket ripped in back and thats where i was losing oil....if thats not it might be a leaky head gasket....or if your real screwed you have a bad piston ring and the oil is in your spark plug tubes....ya not fun

done checked all that stuff. no leaky valve cover gasket, no oil in coolant, and no oil in spark plug tubes. There is no visible oil leak on the engine. Just the normal very minor sippage that comes with 40,000 miles.

your baby might just be using more oil now with age. if you cant find any in the normal spots, she might just be burning it up. age sucks... but dealerships do more. put the motormount in backwards??? WTF?

I have a similar story from the stealership - I had to get my rear main seal replaced by them as well, and after getting the car back, I drive it off, and am happy, blah blah, and take it home. I get out to look it over and notice I have a WHOLE bunch of gunk on my driver side wheel  So I am like :wtf: and remove the wheel to clean it off when I notice while underneath it has a rip in the outer cv boot! I couldnt believe it!! So I take it back up and show them and the service manager says, "well, there is no way to prove it was us." I said, oh yes there is - It was clean when I dropped it off, 3 days later it is dirty, you tell me! He said, well I will look into it, but you will have to leav eit with me over night. I said get me a loaner, and I am NOT paying anything, including gas. He said fine, whatever. Fixed it and gave it back 2 days later (not the one like he promised) and I get it back, and am about to leave when I notice all the freaking grease is still on the wheel!!! I pulled right back in and showed them and said that is just wrong, bad, and horrible customer service. The guy actually rolled his eyes at me, and I said put yourself in my shoes man, how would YOU feel?

Needless to say, the boot popped off in less than a year, and little did I know they would have fixed it, but instead I just got a whole new axle and replaced it instead.

sometimes i think that dealerships just hate us neon guys. I know my parts department hates me when they had to look up parts for the lip kits that i ordered.

Ditto.

The SRT is the first Neon I've owned that lost oil.

Other than not hiring me to be a service writer after I interviewed with the Service Manager ( ), my Dodge dealership (Westgate C-J-D, Plainfiled, IN) has been a blessing to deal with. Not all dealerships are bad.

every time i empty the catchcan im glad i have it, seeing what would end up in my intake manifold, throttlebody and intercooler. build it right, or buy a quality welded can and it will not cause any boostleak. also, use fuelline not that crappy homedepot line (it expands and sucks shut). but its the first 'mod' iwould ever reccomend to an SRT4. the pvc lets that crap blow on by, especially under boost

:hijacked:
I've had a small amount of oil in the elbow just before the intercooler but my mechanic just drained it. I worry about this but, since I bought the 7/70 warranty with a $0 deductible, I figure that Chrysler will have to eat the expense if and when I have trouble.

FYI: no dealership will say that someone has excessive oil usage until oil usage exceeds 1qt/1000miles.

I bet if you took off your bellows tube and wiped inside the intake header you would find your oil. It's just a neon thing, I lose at least a quart before every oil change, sometimes more.
