Worried about the dealer service...

Why can't they just give you the broken parts under the warranty. I took my car on tuesday, something broke on the sunroof, there was a guide on the solid panel and a piece of broken metal in the track. Monday they said they probably have the parts in stock, so bring it by the next day. I take it in and wearily give them my keys. No one ever works on my car but me, been that way for almost all of my favorite ones. Needless to say, they decide to replace the sunroof assembly, rather than the broken pieces and need the car until wednesday to get it in from out of town. That's all good. So Wednesday afternoon I get a call saying they got it all together, and when the open and close it, it's shorting out and blowing a fuse or some crap. I think in my head, ok, how do you end up with shit shorting out on a bolted in part with a plug in connector. He continued on with something about they think that might have caused it to break, I was still thinking about WTF are they talking about it shorting out, and how are they trying to associate a mechanical break with an electric motor having problems, especially when there was no electrical problems in the first place. The sunroof opened and closed just fine, before it broke, it opened and closed just fine after it broke, just there was a tiny bit of play on the pass. side where the guide fell out.
Anyways, I'm here shitting myself that some dealer monkey is fucking up my car and regretting taking it there in the first place. I know the kind of people that work in dealer service deptartments and rarely do they know how to do much more than an oil change. Well, hopefully they call me today and tell me it's done. Then I can get it apart and make sure they didn't fuxor it up too bad.

That sucks ass. Sorry to hear that. My engine blew due to an oil pump failure RIGHT AFTER the warrenty expired. I ended up needing a new engine and had to pay out of pocket for the one I have now. Good luck with it though. I know how ya feel. I work on my car and no one else. Balls--> :slap: <--Stealership

The parts will be returned to the factory for inspection as to what caused the failure since the work was done under warranty.

Hahah, then I could return that crap back to them. I would be alright with them working on my car if I didn't know that they watched a movie once and were released to uleash the terror known as inexperience on other people's vehicles.

I hear you man. I hate the god damn dealerships, most of them. I have only ever had one good experience with warranty work at a dealership. I blew my tranny on my old neon goind down the freeway. I knew I guy in the service department, he took care of me and got a new tranny in asap, installed correctly with no problems. Its a rare occurence though. Good luck man.

My dad's Old T-bird was in the shop at least one a month with continuing problems all surrounding the initial problem he took it in for. After a few times of dropping off the car and then picking up to find new problems, he would just go to the shop and watch everything they did. He really didn't have many problems after that..........because he bought an Acura TL.

Its true, there are a LOT of inexperienced technicians out in the field nowadays. All the older guys are retiring, which is why this is such a great field to get into. The demand for properly trained and prepared professionals gets higher every day. This all just makes me feel better about deciding to get into the auto industry at this time. Hopefully the next gen of techs (me and my colleagues) will be able to turn the public's opinion of the services department in dealers everywhere. However, so as not to completely discredit the current techs out there, I would be willing to bet that the tech that worked on your car was a newer, light-line guy who is given the 'easy' jobs. Sunroof's arent rocket science, but as most of us know, fixing most things on a car isnt exactly cake either.
