If I can't have a Neon SRT-4, this would have to do. Caliber? :tardbang:

Not my cup of tea. It looks like something a Disney animator came up with while listening to Blink 182. (Juvenile, for those of you who didn't get it).
Of course power is good. But I'd rather drive a Saturn Redline than that thing.
And as far as the handling thing goes.......bear in mind that both generations of neon were the best handling cars in their class (that is FWD cars that weigh more than a ton). The 2gn neon is heavier than the 1gn, but is a good deal stiffer.
Point being, the neon has an excellent chassis design that handles like a dream with proper suspension mods. The caliber.......I can't see it handling that well no matter how much money you dumped into it. Too much weight too high up.

^^^agreed

Dodge is shooting themselves in the foot with this one. The previous design will outperform the new one in almost all categories accept headroom.....and bad ideas

On the other hand, I'm remembering that there are very few true performance enthusiasts. I remember when I was younger I thought it was all about how fast it went in a straight line, and how aggressive it looked. As I aged and matured I learned that twisties are way more fun, and developed a taste for slightly more subtle. Not sleeper all the way, but tasteful. There's alot of tasteful 2gns, even a few tasteful SRTs (I say only a few because the SRT crowd as a whole tends to be in the straight line/aggressive mentality). So.....I expect this to sell better than the neon SRT because of the design and the increased power.

Power means nothing without control. I Love the Twisties and Hate the Drag Strip. Member of the SCCA and I used to road course race in California.

I only post this to say I'm in the Minority when it comes to SRT owners.

Oh and I hate the Caliber

No thanks. I would rather swap an Evo engine/tranny into a slammed Mitsu Outlander and proceed to beat the ever living piss out of it. The Caliber is not useful enough to be a mini-suv/wagon and it's too tall for true performance. There are much better ways to spend your money instead of that thing.

I stand firm on the, I want the engine and transmission opnion.

Just wait till people start to wreck them. It'll give senseable people a chance to drop a 6spd into a neon.

Doubt it, its the world engine, AFAIK, its a different bolt-pattern/bell-housing than the Neon engine and its 2.4 variant.

yep and its a GETRAG 6 speed, alot different from the New Venture Gear (NVG) Transaxles in the Neons.

I personally would pass on the World Engine. The Torque band and the fact that I believe it's pretty close to being maxed worry me.

Even as heavy as it is (and it has a curb weight of almost 3200 lbs), it should still be running WAY faster than a 14.6 in the 1/4 mile. That's pathetic for a car with that much power. There's VWs out there running low 13s or lower with the same amount of power (accounting for drivetrain losses), and they weigh barely less than this POS. With a much smaller motor I might add.
I no longer believe DCX claims about "new technology in the world engine broadening the torque band" or whatever rubbish they're claiming. Not that I really did in the first place. :chair:
