I feel like crap.

Post by aperson » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:16 pm

Today set the pace for what I believe is to be my worst week ever. I took my sisters Liberty so I could take father to the dentist and they never gave him his prescription so he couldn't have anything done. On the way home I notice that there's a slight vibration, like the tires were flat spotted in NC when my sister rear ended a guy because a chair fell out of some guys pickup and the car in front of us stopped. Not that bad she's replacing tires soon anyways. I then have an interview at best buy that goes alright and the guy said that he likes me and I have a pretty good chance of getting the position (Floor salesman in computer department), then on the way home I stop at a parts store to get an alternator belt for my dad and they weren't open, so I start heading home. I get near BK and want to eat, but decide to stop closer to home, damn I should have stopped. I get to a red light next to a gas station, the light turns green, we all go, and this guy decides that he wants to go to the gas station and comes to a complete stop in front of me. While this happened, I glanced down to see how fast I was going, 20 no biggie, I start to look up and theres this green Mercury Mountaineer stopped dead, I stomp on the brakes and its raining so of course I skid into the guy. He only needs a rear bumper, whereas my sisters Jeep that she got back last Friday from the accident in NC, 3 FUCKING DAYS AGO! So she now needs a new hood, grille, headlights, fogs, bumper cover, radiator, ac condenser, tranny cooler, hood latch, upper rad support, all the same stuff that just got replaced from the first one minus the radiator. I only hit the guy doing 10-15 too. The cop comes, he gets nothing, I get a ticket for following too closely, whatever, I'm gonna fight it and get it reduced (hopefully) to a fine, I have some friends in high places there so it may work out. But this whole ordeal is now going to cost me 1000-1500 once I get done. And I don't even have a damn job yet, I'm boned.
Suggestions on what to do?
Please be nice, I may cry.

thas way to much to read
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, beer in one hand, Jack Daniels in the other, body thoroughly worn out and bleeding, while screaming "Holy s*** what a ride!"

why do you use a forum if you don't like to read? not everything can be summarized in 2 gramatically incorrect lines.

OP: hang in there, things could be worse. at least you and the other driver are ok, the car can be fixed. good luck with the job, dood.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about the Jeep. Good thing insurance should cover most of it. Best of luck with Best Buy!

Thanks guys, just thinking and is making a left turn over a double yellow line legal? I'm in NY but out of curiosity is it legal anywhere?

If its illegal in OR then I'm in serious trouble. Kinda doubt that it is since how else will people get into their driveways (my situation). Passing is illegal of course but I highly doubt turning.

That sucks. I got in an accident in a similar way a few years ago. Except in this case it was because the guy decided to come to a complete stop in the middle of the freeway. To make an illegal turn across the dirt median. It'll take awhile but I don't think you'll have to deal with attorney fees. Your liability will cover his damage, and $500 deductible will cover the jeep, so your immediate cost = $500. Long term cost.....well insurance will go up.

Funny how people think they have to come to a full and complete stop to turn in somewhere, but you have to turn in going 25 and squealing the tires because the same people won't even slow down.

Crossing a double yellow is illegal period (even if it's to turn into your own driveway). I'm assuming the guy you hit is the person who was going to cross the double yellow? Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done about his intent to cross, and it's still your fault for "following too close", but due to extenuating circumstances (weather, traffic conditions, him stopping in the middle of the street) you may be able to get out of the ticket. Your insurance (your sister's, actually, if other drivers are covered, which they should be) is still obligated to cover all repairs.

Alright, thanks. I already talked with the insurance company and they're covering all repairs to both vehicles.

I'm glad that this shit is finally over. Went to court today, the ticket got reduced to a muffler violation and a $55 fine. Now I just owe the attorney $110 and I'm home free. Only bad thing is damn best buy won't return my calls. And I still have no car due to the tires that are on it being discontinued. Guess I'm buying a tire so I'll have 2 matching pairs.

I really don't understand how you got a muffler violation from following too close. that's not a reduction, that's a whole different ticket lol. Did you get the muffler ticket at the accident and just forget to mention it in the OP? if not, i don't see how a judge can give you a ticket for a bad muffler from inside a court room. i hope it's not a points carrying moving violation that will fuck your insurance up more than the accident. if you didn't recieve the ticket at the scene of the accident, i'd appeal the shit out of that one.

I don't know how he did it other than thats what happened. No points just fine. My luck got ever better yesterday, the guy at the body shop somehow got the deductible reduced by $100 and mom owes me $85 for money she borrowed a while back so I'll almost have enough for that other tire too, then I'll at least be starting from 0 again. Oh and I'm now an official employee of Best Buy.
