Good times at the used car lot.

I was driving around today and spied a 2002 6-speed corvette at the local used car lot. Heh heh. I pulled in and feigned interest, and got handed the keys. Dumasses.

Stiff clutch, engages about 1.5"off the floor, and rather abruptly, but I've driven worse. We go to get on the freeway, a left through the intersection. I kind of stuttered at the light, not used to the clutch, but then stomped it about halfway through the turn. Got totally sideways, backed off to let it catch itself, then made the right to hit the onramp. Hit the freeway at about 85, cruised a mile or two in the slow lane until the traffic opened up to my left, and we were away from CHP hidey holes. Clutched it & hit third, blipped to match revs, checked blind spot one more time and in seconds were doing 110 up the carpool lane. Backed off, got over, and took a favorite back road towards the dealer. 85-90 through some twisties and over a rise, then kind of cruised back, only hit 100 twice more.

Even with all that power and grip, I was never happier to be in my neon than driving away from that corvette. It was a POS. Noisy, rough, unpredictable-it is definitely a chevy. I can see getting used to it cuz I have had some older musclecars, but damn. I've also had two 3-series BMW's ('87 & '89, E30FTW), and I thought my neon was buzzy and unrefined until I drove that car. Don't ever be sad you don't have a 'vette. I was until now.

They wanted 32.9k for it, I laughed & told the manager he was high. I said I've seen them in the paper for 19-21K(I have). He made a comment that it was too much car. I said no, it is actually too much price for a car that has been abused(It had a ratty interior, the drivetrain was sloppy). I told him good luck trying to get that for it, and people that are looking at 30k cars are looking at a lot nicer cars than that. Good times!

Haha good story. I drive cars for Manhiem Auto Auction, and on the exotic/highline sales I drive alot of Vettes; and Im glad I found someone who agrees with me that Vettes arent all they are cracked up to be. Theyre fast, no doubt about that, but the quality and build is just poor in those years. The best all around car Ive driven (which cost over $50,000) was by far the 2007 Audi s4 or the 2007Audi s6.

Good thread. Liked the story :)

I hate vettes. Like the engines, hate the cars.

You just drove the wrong one. My uncle has 3 of them. He has a 2002 6 speed with 12000 miles on it. It is taken care of like no other. I've driven this one and I must say it is amazing. It rides like a sports car and handles beautifully. It's very fast and well built.

That being said...I would much rather drive a viper but that is because I like dodge and personally think they look better. It just depends on who had the car first.

^Vipers ftw!! I've driven a few, one even on a road course. I have never driven a Vette, I just don't like them.

my mom has had 11 vettes and hasnt liked a one lol....long story

i agree they are poorly built for the price.....but look at any newer gm "performance" car.....the cobalt ss sucked, the ion redline sucked, the c5 vetter sucked, and they finally bumped it up a notch with the c6

the trans am and camaro are the only decent thing that came out of a gm plant in those years and even comparing the two, the TA is just far superior
