I wont EVER buy an iPhone until the day it has as many features as my LG.
I love apple and all, but the damn thing doesn't even have multimedia messaging!! OR GPS!

hmm, yeah, I was in the market for a PDA style phone, and bothe the Blackjack, and the Pearl were on my list, but they are both over $350! The iPhone has dropped in price, I got mine for $320 out the door, and as far as GPS, it does indeed give you turn by turn directions by way of Google, and the GPRS system. And I can access AIM, or YIM via the WiFi system.
For the price point, I doubt there is a faster (internet), more user friendly, higher capacity phone.
And just for the record, I never owned an iPod, never had any interest in Apple whatsoever.
The ONLY complaint I have about the iPhone is the fact that Apple will not allow third party software, like, games, or applications.

It has the turn by turn directions, but it doesn't tell you exactly where you are.
I'm a huge apple buff, but I simply refuse to buy one until the features match my lower-priced LG.
Not to mention, I really don't surf the net on my phone to much at all. If I need to use a wifi device, I get out the PSP.

I got my BlackJack for $75 brand new. ATT was offering that deal a few months back (1/2 all Samsungs). Since it was time to renew my contract I got the great deal. He has told me a lot about the iPhone and reason to not get it like:
-Internal Battery( Once it goes bad you have to send it into apple)
-Glass Screen (If you drop it once you are screwed because you can't buy an insurance plan on it)
-Edge Service(Basically an outdated and slower version of 3G. Why they would make such an advanced phone with old technology?)
-The whole separate package ATT requires you to get ( I couldn't get the iPhone with my current plan)
-No external Keypad, so if you ever ended up damaging the screen you couldn't use it period.
And he has told me reason to get one:
-Awesome screen quality
-WiFi <---- AWESOME! Something I wish my BlackJack had it!
-Size (Thin enough to drop in your pocket)
-And the fact that you have one of the sweetest phones!
If I had a chance to swap my BlackJack for an iPhone, I would any day of the week!
OFF TOPIC: BTW, did you just come across a large lump sum of money because you just bought an expensive car and now a pricey phone! I am just busting your balls, I hope you enjoy your new phone Lambo.

My Cingular 8125 has all the same features as the iPhone plus I can use aftermarket software, have a full MS office suite, and can modify it to my heart's content (which I have). I have both A2DP for wireless bluetooth sound, as well as a headphone socket, and I can load and play music without proprietary iTunes crap.
About the only thing better than what I have is the 8525, which has 3G. And is cheaper than iPhone. And more durable. I've seen a few pics of iPhones dropped, and they like to shatter.
And the keyboard? Nothing, and I mean nothing, is as easy to use as the 8125 and 8525 keyboards. Even the Sidekick's "rubbery" buttons don't have a nice click like these do. Plus the applications I use allow me to move around in menus almost identical to iPhone (it's something anyone with a PocketPC phone can add).
Both 8125 and 8525 can be carrier ID unlocked, and upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. I've already done so and it's like having a nearly complete media computer in your palm. I have all the chat programs, media players, and other toys I could possibly want.
No carrier choice. No 3G. BIG price. About the only nice thing is 4-8 gigs, but then that makes it only good in terms of music/video storage, and guess what... for less I can get an iPod that can hold much more, and is much more durable.
Like everything else from Apple these days, iPhone is about image, not about practicality. It's fashion more than it's phone or player. And the iTouch isn't much better. It does what it says it does, but that's all it can do, and it costs a lot to do only that. I'm not a slave to fashion, and I like to keep my money for my car, but for you rich folks who have the $$$ to blow, have at it.

FTW.

There are videos of them getting dropped on Youtube, no shattering, the screen is thick crystal, not glass, scratch, and chip resistant.
I was mid contract and my RAZR took a shit, I was forced to buy a phone at full price, this was BY FAR the best deal for it's functions, etc.

My RAZR flaked so much I coudln't stand it and gave it away. I switched to a SLVR and was superhappy. I used to tether it to the notebook PC at work and use the internet connection for the notebook (CIngular $20 unlimited data). I only got a PocketPC because I switched to a job where I couldn't set up my notebook PC, and wanted to still have net access.
I'm thinking of switching to this:
It's a Sony Vaio UX, has a 4.5" touchscreen, runs full Windows XP, has WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, A2DP, full-size USB 2.0, and GSM for your SIM card. Hard drive is flash 80GB.
My roommate has one, and he might sell it to me, I dunno. Until then, my 8125 is fine.

I've had one since July 4... you will have so much fun sending in your phone about once a month to get fixed. I'll be on my 4th new phone when my new one comes back. I don't use it hard it just has problems.
That being said it does do a lot of cool stuff and it a nice ipod. The camera is not bad. And even though apple doesn't allow third party stuff they have been able to make things work. Check out hacktheiphone.com you can do some good upgrades.
The bad about this phone
Easily scratched
touch screen is temperamental
internet is usually slow unless on wi-fi
safari crashes quite a bit
Google maps crashes quite a bit
can't send or receive picture messages (MMS)
Speakers are really quiet
Can't add or remove programs without a lot of hassle
Can't have mp3's as ring tones
The phone breaks a lot
Apple overcharge you for everything
I am by no means an apple fan (far from it) I just liked the phone when I got it and the plan for it is a good deal. I didn't have an ipod before and I needed a new phone so I just combined the two.
You could be a lucky one and not have any problems and not be expecting what steve jobs said the iphone would do. It falls short so they could "improve" it down the road and people will be like wow again and again. Good marketing idea...

sorta like the way people who bought the 4 GB phone ended up overpaying, because they just dropped the 4 GB price at the same time as release an 8 GB model

But they did just issue a $100 rebate to anyone who bought an iPhone when it first came out.
That's the joys of technology though....
Steve Jobs wrote:If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon.

Yeah but it wasn't out more than few months, that's sneaky. They know very well that a notable percentage of the earlier buyers won't hear about or (if they do) won't bother to go through with the rebate. It's a statistic they make money on.
Steve Jobs is an artist, and a good promoter, but really could care less about efficiency and function. .Personally I think Jobs is an arrogant asshole, and always has been.

I know exactly what he's doing, and how he advertises his products. It really is genious, considering most of America is nothing but consumeristic whores that base there status around the things they own. (I know, because I'm one of them,

)
I work right along side our marketing department here at work, and I know all the sneaky tatics a business will deploy to make more money. Apple makes some damn fine products... I just feel the iphone was one of there worst. Give it another 6 months, and with all the updates they'll release, it might be up to par with higher class phones now adays.
And when that time comes, I'll finally own one.

I had a go phone from cingular. A 30 dollar phone plus 30 dollar a month for service...
I'm dirt cheap.

Well the first thing you said there, you make a very good point. It's the same reason why channels like E! are so popular, as well as Extra and other shows on network television.
Like I said, Jobs is an artist. He knows how to get people to buy shit. It's his talent. Think back to the award-winning commercial for Macintosh back in the 80's (the one with the guy throwing the sledgehammer).
But he lacks any real engineering insight. He picks and chooses the trim on his products based on what you said -- what he can hock on the market, whether it's functionally better or not.
By the time the iPhone (or its successor) is as you say it will be, there will be better products from other companies. They aren't sitting still, either.

And right there my friend is why I LOVE technology. It's ALWAYS advancing and improving upon itself.

You must have stayed with WM5. WM6 is fast and more configurable. Virtual keypads are larger. Touch sensitivity is improved. I switched to WM6 and couldn't be happier. It's your loss, not mine.

simply buy any phone with windows mobile 6. it may not have a pretty interface like the iphone but the OS inside is customizable and you can install third party software. Some phones can even be overclocked. There are more windows mobile powered phones out there than there are BBOS and moto powered systems.
The iphone does have third party software however you have to modify your phone and use telnet to upload files. There is also no official SDK (system development kit) to aid people in creating their own iphone apps.
I know people that use Skype mobile with their windows mobile phone, overclock the CPU to get smoother call reception and then simply pay for an unlimited data plan. They spend a fraction of what normal people spend on their phone bill.
