They are bringing car inspections to Florida...
AFAIK, starting in Jan. 08, Florida is going to mandate automobile inspections such as emmisions. If they do, I am slightly worried about it because a few mods which I don't know if they would be legal.
Catch can...I dont have a stock PVC line anymore.
AEM intake...does have CARB # though so it should pass.
Front strut bar...?
Yellow valve cover...? (doesn't affect engine, but you know how these people can be)
If I do need a PVC line, I'm sure I can find one at some junkyard...

If you are concerned about the catch can then just get a pcv line and replace it before you go in for the check.
technically i dont believe you are allowed to modify the emissions system, pcv included, so it probably would be illegal. but just put a stock hose on, get it checked and then take it off after.
i keep mine in the trunk of my car just in case a hose from my can breaks.

ok dude, where did you read this? because from what i'm reading they arent doing inspections. the new Regulations are on new cars from the factory.
"For carmakers, the change will mean reducing "automobile and light truck emissions by 25 percent and sport-utility vehicle emissions by 18 percent starting with their 2009 models," according to the Sun-Sentinel. We'll see how California's regulations fare in the ongoing battle with the EPA. Automakers prefer a national approach to emissions rules."
And as of the end of July Gov. Crist was against Inspections.
I remember the headline "Gov. Crist says vehicle inspections won't return because they're too inconvenient"

They don't look under the hood. They just plug into your OBDII system.

As in my first post, its afaik. My half-brother lives in virginia, and bought a totally modded RX-8. He wants to register it here in Florida though because he has a condo here. He wanted me to get some information, so I called city hall up and an official on the phone told me he wouldn't recommend doing it because Florida is going to be testing out cars starting in 2008 to help get junk vehicles off the road, such as the cars that make a huge blue cloud of smoke behind them. He told me its one of the many new laws coming in effect for florida this coming year. Personally I do hope it's not true, but I do believe I read it in NWF daily news a while back talking about new laws.

well according to Gov. Crist it isn't going to happen. So breathe Easy. The City Official was confused.
New Laws have to be announced and searching the intraweb i haven't found it. Just the laws regarding new cars and power plants.

We don't have the air pollution problems like California and Pennsylvania have so there is no big push for it. Living on a penninsula we get the benefit of tropical waves and coastal air masses and the like recycling our air all the time. We have more polluted water than air at this point! (Swim in the St. Johns River lately?)
If you can get a link to an article or something stating this fact please post it because it's news to me.

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

even if they do institute a new law, your car and your brothers would more than likely be grandfathered in since all mods (as far as they know) were done prior to 1/1/08. kinda like vehicles that never came with emmisions equipment are grandfathered in states that already require it. check into that, and if that's the case, just buy all your emissions related crap now, install it, take documented photos with dates, then remove what you don't want on there right now and put it back on when you want/need it.

As a Democrat.. no I'm not glad we have a republican governor. But I am glad someone has the sense to say that Emissions testing is a waste of time.kc2002acr wrote:Thank god you have a republican governor, else you would probably have an emissions test soon![]()

not long after that, californias Governator was lobbying other states to join in CARB inspections. One of the states was Florida Even if crist did want to reinstitute some kind of emissions tests simillar to the california CARB test it would mean having to have other florida politicians vote on the subject. With tax dollars strained as it is and the growing problems with the florida homeowners tax relief bill, politicians will have little to no time to debate this issue anytime soon.MoxHairR/T wrote:ok dude, where did you read this? because from what i'm reading they arent doing inspections. the new Regulations are on new cars from the factory.

anyways, there is a bill in place that does have florida MATCH the emissions standards found in California. This does not have any effect on old cars and does not reinstate any emissions tests, CARB or otherwise.

^ Exactly what i said.
"Florida has done a flip-flop on emissions testing. The State purchased almost 70 emissions dynamometers and set up testing facilities in the early 90's and then, several years later, abandoned the entire state owned dynamometer emissions program and auctioned the systems off as surplus state equipment around 2002-2003, costing Florida taxpayers millions. $80,000 virtually unused units sold for as little as $5,000 at auction."
Now to buy them back and start testing again? Right.. that would be smart
