Intercooler?

Post by superman63086 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 6:38 pm

Ok so I havent been around long enough to know these things. So please bare w/ me. I have a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja I am turboing :D And I have an idea im not sure will work. Now PLEASE correct me if im wrong, but are not oil coolers and radiators designed very much like an intercooler? And if so is it possible to use either of the latter for an intercooler. I want an intercooled setup but it just isnt practical for the sizes that they come in on cars. So can anyone clear this up for me. And has anyone been dumb enough to try it on a car to see if it worked? more so with the radiator.

I'm pretty sure an intercooler will have larger passages for the air to move thru then an oil or water cooler. I'd think that someone would make a small intercooler you could mount on the front down tubes of your bike but then again you'd really have to google it to find out.

well i knew it wouldnt be exact but I will only be running say 5psi or so and that will definitely help if I can get it intercooled. If anyone thinks it will work lmk. Thanks in advance. All im hoping is that it will flow enough to work.

like was already said, it's a bike. I've seen quite a few turbo busas up at MIR in md, never once have I seen an intercooled one. I've also never seen anyone running more than 3-4psi on a street bike. Hope this is ment for the track only.

Ps: nitrous is your friend

Yeah the first thought I had was if you don't know enought to tune it, you probably shouldn't be driving (or ACK! especially RIDING ON) something that fast. No offense.

Even Jay Leno knows how to tune his crazy fast rides if he has to. Which he doesn't. lol

ps your riding/driving ability has nothing to do with your KNOWLEDGE of how the car/bike is tuned. The same build done by a proff at home or paid for is still dependent on capabilities of the person driving/riding. which for me riding has been longer than driving. I cant help it my dad was a dick and wouldnt teach me this stuff.

Hmmm well it sounded like you were an inexperienced rider but i stand corrected.

Honestly intercooling is always good, but I think as long as the boost is low, you can get away with not using one.

I would think that a forum for Ninja tuners would have actual owners who have done this already, and that would be a better
place to start. There may already be ready-to-go setups even.

From what I understand, usually it's the cruiser bikes who want to turbocharge, not the crotch rockets.

What size is the inlet on the throttle body? I'd say dig on ebay for the smallest possible intercooler you can find and fab up some piping and a mounting system. If it's a drag bike, ground clearance really isn't an issue, so put it right near the ground by the front tire, and it will keep temps down for sure.

if it is for track runs ... would make more sense having an air / water setup instead of a forced air intercooler ...
