I'm a Democrat, But I vote for the candidate that seems to have the most in common with me. I will never vote for someone who mixes Religion with Politics. Separation of Church and State is something I believe to my core. But the major issue that I am paying attention to are plans to fix our economy and curb wasteful spending. Our country needs to get out of debt and build a surplus like we used to have. Otherwise we are going to be in a world of hurt for a long long time.

Total national debt as of today is $9.2 trillion dollars. Plus many people are getting older and pulling out of their pension/Soc security funds as source of income.

I'd vote for someone who are focused into the security of the country and the current economic situation.

Look at Ron Paul's voting record! He's a libertarian/constitutionalist in a republican's clothing, since he has no choice. Running 3rd party in this country is FAIL. He's never voted to raise taxes (as they're unconstitutional), he's never voted for an un-balanced budget, he's never voted for a congressional pay raise, and truthfully, if it doesn't say we can do it in the constitution, he wont vote for it.

I'm in favor of Ron Paul as of right now and will probably vote for him. Some of the other canidates scare me like Neo-Conservative Giuliani which I think would be the same as bush if he won. Romney worries me b/c he brings up Religion a lot in his campain and whenever someone brings that up it worries me b/c some peoples religious views scare me. There has be a seperation between church and state, at least I think so but that might be b/c I'm not really a religious person.

You will have to eat those words when McCain wins. And he probably will.

And no, I'm not Republican. McCain will only make things worse. But he will probably win, for the same reasons W did for his 2nd term.

I lost all respect for Mr. Norris.
I agree. I despise Huckabee. The douchebag is using his religious background to get votes. I would probably take Clinton as the lesser of 2 evils.

But yeah, Go Ron Paul. He's the first non-tool politician we've had run for prez in a while.

He ran back in 88, as a Libertarian. He's a 10th tern senator atm.

Does anyone even know off hand where the term "separation of church and state" comes from? Just curious, because without looking it up on the net my guess is that most people do not know where it came from, what it means, and what was REALLY being said at that time :D

Just a quick history lesson for all you people "loosely" throwing that term about...

Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists wrote this passage and in it is where this term came from:
from: http://www.loc.gov/loc/lcib/9806/danpre.html
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
T. Jeff did not intend to restrict religion in ANY way shape or form. In fact he made sure of this when he quoted from the first amendment: "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This shows that his concern was on both sides. Not just that the government should not be run by the church, but that the government would never tell the church how it was to be done nor impose any restrictions upon it. This key second half of the 1st Amend. usually gets left out when people say 'separation of church and state', and forget that there is freedom of religion, not freedom FROM religion. Huckabee expressing his views and faith on the public forum and in the political arena can not be stopped, nor should it be limited at all.

For one to say that mixing religion and politics is violating separation of church is state is ludicrous... people have religious views. If one does not like them they have the freedom to express their opposing views. So why should we not allow any open discussion or forums on religion in the political arena? To do away with this would be wrong. This country was (like it or not) founded on religious principals by religious people who modeled the constitution and its laws after a Judeo-Christian belief system.

I also must point out that I heard no one cry out when Senator Keith Ellison was sworn in to Congress with a Qur'an, the same Qur'an that was owned by said above second president. So why is it such a big deal then when a presidential candidate speaks about his religious views? Is it because he is Christian? or Mormon? I see no problems with politicians having faith of some sort or another. I think if someone has a problem with it, they can just turn down their TV and choose not to vote for them.

Here is the REAL response to those of you criticizing Huckabee for claiming not to believe in Evolution...

My comment about Separation of church and state was in reference to the type of person I would vote from. I dislike it very much when elected officials say things like "God Bless America." Or something like that.

but as a policy of mine, I choose not to have a religious Discussion, As an Atheist, I'm usually out numbered and people always try to 'convert' me. I treat religion as i treat homosexuality, You are free to do what you like, Just do not invade my personal space, try to change my life, or break the law.

I vote for "Freedom From Religion" and a better economy.

I'm not saying I have a problem with him expressing it, if he wants to thats his choice and as always, it's a free country. Who am I to say he can or can not do that. My reasoning for saying it is more along the lines of his decisions being strongly affected by his faith. After being around some people here at work, some peoples beliefs scare me. Other people it might not affect very much but to me it does. I mean, I met on person at work that came in and it was scary with her asking me "Do you have Christ in your heart?" just out of the blue with nothing leading up to that question. Then she proceeded to say that she couldn't go a day without Jesus, that she doesn't know how she would be able to make it through her day. To me I suppose I just fear that important decisions may be strongly affected by the persons religious faith rather than what is in the best interest of the county... who knows. Thats just my opinion on the matter so I don't mean to ruffle anyones feathers or say someone is right or wrong in their faith but to be President there will be some tough decisions and as with most people I hope those decisions are made with the best interest of the country in mind since some might go against someones religious beliefs.

Seriously though. I'm a Ron Paul supporter because of two things: He's extremely intelligent, and he knows what it will take to start straightening out America's problems...financial, foreign policy, and otherwise.

But, as much as I'd like to see him win, I seriously doubt he will. Which is why when it comes down to it, I just get frustrated with politics because it's always just a big freaking mess.

Ron Paul is a Christian, and an obstetrician.
As a libertarian he doesn't care if anyone goes to hell for aborting their baby though. It isn't the governments business, and he knows it.
Our entire western culture is based on Judeo-Christian values and morals, like it or not.
Ron's foreign policy changes would pay for social security, a tax cut, and probably some healthcare reform to boot.

If Clinton wins I'm moving to a different country, maybe Canada. I won't live in a country with her as president. Since I'm pretty much a Libertarian I guess Ron Paul is my guy even though I like the way Guiliani ran things after 9/11. I don't like the Repbublicans telling me what I can and can't put into my body and I don't like the Demecrats trying to take my guns and money so that's why I'm a Libertarian. Let FREE people be FREE damn it.

I can't say first hand but I know some people from NYC, one of which lives behind us and they all seem to not like him very much b/c of how he handled 9-11. I also stumbled upon this about him and there are a lot more out there of the same thing... just not sure how accurate it is though :-?
