I got a letter from dodge yesterday expressing interest in my neon. They're also advertising their new deal of $3/gallon gas for 3 years if you buy a 2008 vehicle and an invite to some event they're holding.

I'm not giving up my neon, is anyone else getting similar mail?

Neons are good on gas, so they are probably selling for a premium right now.

Yeah the whole "We NEED your trade!" just means, "Hey! We know you bought your car 3-5 years ago and if you want to trade your car in for ultra cheap so we can sell it for twice as much as we give you for it while moving some new inventory at the same time, that would be super if you would come down so we can talk you into something!" that's all. And that $2.99 gas promo is total junk. Read the fine details. You give up alot to get that and it's very limited. Unless you drive a whole lot it doesn't make sense.

If you want to buy a new car, try selling your car outright. It's a hassle but worth it. Advertise how well its been taken care of and it's 35 MPG on the highway. It will sell for a fair amount. People are overpaying HUGE amounts for Metros and Civics are getting more expensive so reliable domestics are going up in value a bit themselves.

ah, i see. Well, i'm not interested in getting rid of my car at all and nothing that chrysler makes interests me at the moment. The letter went straight to the garbage after i looked it over lol

You might get a cold call from some newbie at the dealership soon too. Sales are way, WAY down and they are really trying to get people in there.

I agree. Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep has nothing I want right now. And if I did want it, it's far from practical. And if I can make it sorta practical, I can't afford it. (ie. Wrangler 4 door, Quad Cab truck, etc.).

I want to look at a Nissan Versa since NOONE will work with me on a Honda Fit, but I just plain don't like it. I think I will end up keeping the Neon for another year and pay it off. See what driving without a payment feels like again.

The gas deal is a scam. You have to finance thru Chrysler, you lose half of any rebate, the price is good on only 87 octane though a $0.20 upcharge per grade, only the 1st 12k miles per year and no SRT vehicles.

I have been getting these pitches from various C-J-D dealerships for years, the most hilarious being one I got last month informing me that my '02 SXT (below) is definitely worth a lot as a trade.

^^I was really tempted to do just that especially since I had called that particular dealership back in '03 to request being dropped from their mailing list due to my no longer owning the car.

They really are desperate for good condition low mile cars that they know they can get cheap in on trade and sell someone something new. Lots of people are trading out of trucks and Jeeps and all that for something smaller and cheaper.

I saw a low mileage 4-6 year old Sunfire, 5 speed, nice shape, 17" Katanas (ooo! ahh!) and they want $8K with a straight face. Uh...yeah...NO!!! But, they might just get that much. Who knows. There are no more $9999 ad cars anymore. Even the base Aveo is over $11K.

$4+ a gallon for a few months will really start seeing people's SUVs piling up at the dealership. And maybe, just maybe, our Neons might be worth a bit more as the pool of Metros dry up.

well..having just helped my gf by her first car....05 dodge sx (aka neon) up here in ontario......we found that there wasnt as many neons kicking around as there was just a little while ago...instead there was a lot of trucks and SUV's on lots.....took us a while and a pretty willing salesperson who found us a good deal and accidently screwed up the price, so we got a pretty loaded neon for 2k less then what it shoulda went for.

we are paying $1.30L now which is almost $5gal......so lets just say....everyone in my family either owns a four banger or a small v6......forget the big cars....already hurts paying more then $50 a fill up in a small car let alone a land yaught.
