What would you do...?

Soooo...... my wife and I should be getting all our bills paid off, including her car, and would be debt free. Last night she said to me if we get all that stuff paid off, we could buy me a new car. I would have to sell my ACR. Ok, so it wasn't a new car she was talking about, but she specifically said SRT4. What would you do? Just want to hear people opine.. sounds awesome, I would have a newer car with half the milage and the performance I want and can afford right now. I would rather have something like an EVO IX, STi, WRX, Volvo S60R... the list goes one, but all of those run into the 20's used within same year and milage.
What do you think? What would you do? Sell the ACR and get an SRT4? Sell the ACR get a different car? If so what kind? Or would you keep the ACR, stay debt free, and pray nothing happens to the ACR? Thanks!

-Once you get debt free keep the ACR and do not go into debt again.
-When you achieve the debt free status start socking away the extra cash.
What is going to give you some financial security and peace of mind? The new car in the driveway and another debt for a depreciable consumer item -or- a stash of cash in the bank... preferably a high interest bearing account.

Keep the ACR and do a srt swap. Buy a $300 beater to get you around in the downtime. Cmon, after yellowpatrols gets his done, you know you'll be jealous.

Keep the car until it blows up then take the money you would have spent on buying a newer car and put it in savings.

I'll be a broken record here..... Keep your ACR it's a beautiful Neon. Stay out of debt as long as possible and keep your nest egg growing. You never know when you'll get hit with a stray curve ball.

i'm going to go away from the crowd
as nice as it is having no car payment, I'd rather spend $200+ a month in car payment with a car that I don't have to go outside and worry about it it'll start this time. I remember awhile you said the ACR was smoking and having some problems... What are you going to do if it all of a sudden one day wont start and you have to get to work?
It's actually the only reason I own a newer car... I was getting sick of my older beaters not wanting to start randomly, and having to drop $400+ in parts unexpectedly. At least this way, I KNOW what I have to spend a month, nothing just randomly pops up, and I can safely assume whenever I need to go somewhere, my car will take me no problems.
If you have other options for transportation, then sweet! Keep the ACR, do whatever maintenance you have to do, and save for something big later in life. If not, get a newer car, something that you'll truly enjoy. Don't settle for a SRT-4 if that's not the car you REALLY want. Shit, don't settle for ANYTHING less than what you really want.
For a lot of us, cars are our lives. When I wasn't happy with my neon, my mood was dramatically impacted. Now that I have the car I've been wanting since I was 18, I couldn't be any happier.

Keep the car. I'm holding off on a new car until my car stops working, whenever that would be. I decided that I'll buy a car when it's really necessary, not because of wanting one.
Save the money. Plus your car is an ACR, it's not just any ordinary Neon either.
Who knows, maybe there's a newer car in the future that you might find even better.

im with Opi.
are you going to be delivering pizzas in the SRT if you get it?

I no longer deliver pizzas, and I only drive 100 miles a week now

I would not get an SRT4 if I was delivering still. I agree about keeping the car since it is paid off, that way with no debt, no car payment, and a decent car to drive while I finish school would be awesome. After I get my job teaching I will be making twice as much as I am now, and I will be able stash away about 15k a year towards a house... with a car payment of around 200-250 the amount goes down to about 12-13k... so either way... no big deal. My wife wants a bouse after I graduate, and the plan was to pay off the debt next year, then save the following 2 years... meaning we would be putting about 20k down on a house. With debt getting paid off this year that means we can save for a year and a half, or two and get our house sooner.
Even with the car payment the plans stay the same (many are the plans in a man's heart but it is the Lord's plan that prevails). The wise thing to do would be keep my ACR and keep it running. I am about to dump a grand intot he bottom end to get it completely up to date and running strong, as well as bumping up the compression, etc... so I will have a fun to drive, 150-160whp car.
I have ALWAYS wanted an SRT4, so buying one would be a "dream come true" so to speak, and the wife knows it. I think she knows it will kepp me happy, just like I have been trying to do for her.

Either way she gets her dream with or without me getting a new car. We will see, I still have some time to think about it. Keep the opinions coming.

There are some cheap SRT's out there. Yeah, you're not going to get a badass mint cherry car but they can take a lot of abuse (aside from the tranny) and under 10K will not give you payments forever.

Yeah, the plan is to sell the ACR, get between 4-5k for it, use all of it to put down payment on a used 05 SRT4... I can get awesome financing through my bank wiht super low APR. I can get a $15k SRT4 with 5k down and still be under $200 a month. Even buying a $17k SRT4 with that amount keeps me below $250 a month.

I do believe someone quoted on here, somewhere, that when you're considering a race type vehicle or race a lot, you lose all rights to bitch about gas mileage and gas prices
But for the record, I agree... gas does suck. I left for my deployment and gas was at like a high $3 (back in March)... I'm going to come back and it'll be in the fuckin low (hopefully) $5's...

I work at a gas station so I here the bitching all day and its mainly from the SUV drivers which is kinda why prices are like they are(this is not the only reason but one that helps the politicians realize that they can do this)

OK, a lady in a Expedition came in the other day and gave me 40dollars on her pump, she went to pump and I started ringing up other customers, she then comes back and says her pump is broke because it is pumping too fast

. I said maam the prices being the way they are makes the gas go a lil faster and she replied that if the 40 doesnt fill up here car that she is gonna come yell at me and then she wants a manager. I said yes maam no problem I then calculated (on a calculator) her gallons to dollars and printed a receipt and she left. I dont understand what people think or are gripping about go to England and pay 10dollars a gallon then let me here it.

i read the topic post and non of the replies, so sorry for points that i repeat..
I say keep your car and stay DEBT FREE... If your car is running alright just keep it... why pay off all of your bills only to go out and create debt...
To me that dosent make any sense... but hey thats just my view on it

If you have to money for it enjoy whatever car you can afford. you only live once and it seems like you're on a good track with youre money. i would hate to see you sell you're car but if i could afford it i would trade mine for a art-4 ACR in a heart beat
