stocks
Re: stocks
Yes, but I tend to buy and hold for a very long time rather than try to time the market.w0158981 wrote:Just wondering if anyone plays the stock market at all and if so wat site do you go through i'm looking to try and invest a little.
I'm not into the "day trading"; however I have a friend who has been doing that for the last few years while being mostly unemployed. The biggest issue is riding out the market fluctuations that can seriously erode and/or wipe out his day trading revenue.
Discount brokerages available here in Canada likely won't be available down south... in any case I would recommend going with a decent discount brokerage. Do a little research online to see what others have been using and are happy with.
Better yet, get a job where you can purchase company stock at a discount with the company matching your purchases. I worked for Hewlett-Packard during the time when their stock purchase plan was excellent and managed to accumulate a fair chunk of HP stock... but then they changed the program such that it was not longer worthwhile participating.
Just don't make those company stocks your only investment. Imagine the company falling on hard times...
-the value of your stock plummets
-then the company lay you off
Ouch!
