What kind of camera?

OK guys, I realized last night just how sucky my Kodak Easy Share C330 really is when I bought a 2GB memory card for it, and found out that it will only support up to 256MB cards. I've been rather underwhelmed with its picture quality for a while now, and this was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.

So I'm looking at another camera now, what do you recommend? I am a point and shoot type of guy, and after talks with Crystal and Matt, DSLR is not for me. I have no interest in spending 500 dollars on a camera that I will have to constantly fidget with to get good pics.

So a normal point and shoot is what I'm looking for. I have heard that the Nikon Coolpix is a good one, any other suggestion to look at?

Edit: I'm looking for something under 200 bucks preferably.

Check out the Sony DSC W55. I have that and am very happy with it for a point and shoot.

Many years ago I had a regular film 35mm SLR. Played around a lot with that camera.

But have to admit that I am more interested in the end results, even if they are not perfect, than the fiddling.

I have the Canon PowerShot A720 IS that I am happy with. The thing has more features than I have yet to explore.

I got a Sony Powershot... but I hate point and shoots... :(

Even using a DSLR on AUTO settings can take some nice pictures.

Cannon A630. Awsome little camera. Takes great shots even in auto mode. And if you want to get tricky they have a complete custom mode or aputure settings and everything. Great camera all around.

Well, unless you guys know something I don't about pricing DSLR's, they're out of the question... I'm not spending 500 bucks on a camera unless it gives me special favors as well...

This isn't a dslr. Is a point and shoot. With a swivel screen witch is VERY handy. I think I paid 120 for it. Then 15 for the 2 gig mem card. I use the camera all the time.

With the evolution of the digital camera a few companies that never made cameras now suddenly offer cameras to consumers.

I would rather stick with a company that has years of experience with photographic equipment such as the big two... Nikon & Canon. They have the experience *and* the expertise with the glass which in my opinion is the most important part.

Folks, please share your comments here in the thread rather than going to PM's. Maybe we can all learn something from your pearls of wisdom. Heck, maybe even an old fart like me can be convinced to consider consider makes other than Nikon or Canon.

Any Canon Powershot FTW.

Any Kodak Easyshare is junk... For the most part. No "advanced" features, etc.

Nope, you're right old fart... Nikon or Canon... or nothing at all.

Only reason I bought my shitty point and shoot is for this deployment... and I have a Sony Vaio laptop... (built in memory card reader)

That's another thing, I have the built-in SD card reader on my Gateway laptop, so I'd like to keep with a standard sized card... I dunno if that really makes a difference in the options of cameras you guys have thrown out there.

Agreed, better than most point and shoots that is. I plan on looking into getting a DSLR here soon but I cant afford it! So much stuff, so little money.

These are probably the most basic questions, it will help us cut down the amount of models you have to choose from.

1)What are you looking to take pictures of? (cars, kids, scenery, random shit...)
2)What type of batteries do you want? (lithium ion thats rechargable - doesn't hold a memory card, or deal with the pain of AA that only last 40 to 50 shots - AA rechargables can be used, probably bump that number up to 150ish, but you still have to spend more money on the rechargable kit).
3)What size camera do you want? (small, slim, portable, or bigger with somewhat of a handle on it)

Answer those questions PROPERLY, not with a "I don't know you tell me" or "what do you suggest", and then we can recommend some cameras for you...
