I think the family crest is pretty cool by itself. Leave the name out of it. I hate it when people have their own name tattooed on themselves.

I would actually make sure that is your crest. I would hate for you to have that put on your back and it be wrong.

If you are looking for originality of the crest I would look into something more respectable than that. Those look very cheap and just a quick way to make money on the internet. If you could get to go to Scotland you can go to the Edinburgh library and get an actual representation of your crest but that is a far out idea. You might be able to dig through the crap on the internet and find your actual crest not just one made for the story of your family name.

They show my crest as a hand with dagger and a blue and white rope on the bottom. Our actual crest is an arrow shot through two birds because the original McKie (McKay in some areas) shot two birds with one arrow to prove himself to Robert the Bruce. And our motto is "By labor" and not "with a strong hand".

Usually older families from the United Kingdom area had crests. If you can trace your name back to that area it might be possible to find your family crest.

Usually the crests that have survived are from the more prominent families - usually landed elites. But you don't have to come from money to have one just a certain part of Europe.

that is the exact crest i have the same one posted in my room from scotland. I really want to encorporate the "BRODIE" name but don't know how. thats my main struggle, i was thinking of just keeping it black and white rather then adding in all the little colors.
