It's a terrible thing to have happen to your child/friend/loved one, and I'm not sure exactly how it even went this far. It sounds like EVERYONE knew the kid was unsafe and reckless with his car. The only possible reason I can come up with is that they are from Ohio.... the saddest excuse for a state anywhere. No offense to all you from Ohio, but I only know one person remotely normal from Ohio, and he's not originally from there. It seems like all those cornfield kids drop out of high school and get pregnant, but I digress.
Regardless, it' an awful thing, and yes he was completely in the wrong, no doubt, but why add insult to injury here people? These are lives lost not just a hunk of replaceable metal.

I did the same thing at 15.. hit a tree sideways at 75 mph with no seat belt.. so I cant say anything... and the tree hit on the back drivers door too.. I walked away without a scratch.. doctors, cops, and paramedics couldn't explain it... I just got lucky...
I'm just glad theyre coming out with that speed governor that parents can set for theyre kids car.. greatest idea ever!

I may not love the state, but watch what you say buddy.
Kids die, children die, people die. It's a part of life. You make stupid decesions, you and the people around you must deal with those consequences.
I really hope the family learns something from this.
Who the fuck cares what car gets totaled though. That's never the important part in a story like this. The important part is this story is shared, and people LEARN something from it. Don't let another kid die in vein. Realize that hey, if you drive 150+mph there's a good chance you might loose control and kill yourself.

It isnt preventing speed does nothing to teach car control, it is just another thing to baby bad drivers and prevent natrual selection from taking place. If you kid dies becauseBluerocketsneeks wrote: I'm just glad theyre coming out with that speed governor that parents can set for theyre kids car.. greatest idea ever!
1. You raised an asshole(may or may not be your fault)
2. You bought him way too much car
3. You though parallel parking and how to stop at a stop sign was eneough driver traning
I dont see how you can feel sorry for the kid or the parents the only people who deserve any sympathy in this story are the passangers parents they are the only ones who really couldnt have done anything to prevent this.

All that's going to do is delay the problem. So you can't go fast in the parents car, ok. What happens when the kid finally gets their own car and can still drive as fast as they like. They own the car, they own the key. Can't see them self limiting themselves. So instead of having teens dying we're going to have 20 somethings dying. Being older doesn't automatically make you a better driver.Bluerocketsneeks wrote:I'm just glad theyre coming out with that speed governor that parents can set for theyre kids car.. greatest idea ever!

How to fix your car:
1. Buy a Haynes manual
2. Read Haynes maual
3. Read and search appropriate threads, trust us, it's been covered before
4. Fix car
5. Consume beer of job well done

I don't think anybody really cares about the car, my statement was a joke. I have heard nothing but people dying within the last week from car accidents and quite frankly it's scary and i've heard enough. Rough reality to face when you know your kid has a history of this kind of stuff, and i'm sure they did. If not, then I feel extremely bad. I mean I feel bad regardless but it is hard to have sympathy for the kid that did it to himself in the first place. I feel bad, for like everybody else had said, his close friends, family etc. They are feeling this the most and it took the cost of someones life to realize they to need to be careful when they are driving. There's always lessons to be learned in life and some learn the hardest way possible.

well unless the kid buys his own car, the parent have the right to put in the kids car too.. and if the kid buys his own car im sure he's a little bit more responsablefixitmattman wrote:All that's going to do is delay the problem. I know when i was 17 and wanted to do mph, i just looked for cops.. but now... i notice road conditions, turns, how to handle the vehicle at various speeds.. alot comes from driving normally.. you cant break the rules til you learn them first.. ya know?
well it will help kids from breaking their cars in two.. I mean they dont make side airbags if your car did that at "normal" high speeds... and i was more or less talking about for other types accidents.. when other cars are involved.. and he was only 17.. he still needed to be babied... seems like he was a show off.. i dont know about the natural section thing.. people are very differnt at 17 and when they get older.. people mature... I mean if a baby falls while walking, does it deserve to get hurt cause he's an "asshole" walker.. he's just inexperiences but it would the parents fault if they gave him roller skates too
drivers ed should include wayy more.. like even car care.. fluid chances, tires, just normal stuff.. I mean even if they dont teach them how to do it they can at least tell them where and when to get it done

You're not a baby at 17(this is one of few age discussions I can accurately comment on) As I sit here now I am fully aware of the conquences of what I may do. This guy had the same ability he chose not to use it.
One last question what is with all these people smashing SRTs up? I have driven a few of them it isnt that hard in fact it is easier(save the torque steer) than most other cars I've driven.

I'm not saying all 17 year olds... and yes at 17 you are usally a "baby driver".. again i'm talking about the "average 17 year old boy" like i was... I mean i didnt drive in snow til my second year driving cause we didnt have any the first year.. I'm just saying experience helps

yeah.. just the majority of inexperienced driver are young.. then you throw a fast car into the mix.. not good..bone-yard-racing wrote:Experance definately helps but so does skill. If more people(I dont care if your 16 or 160) would try to improve their driving accidents like this wouldnt happen nearly as often. Most race tracks and SCCA regions hold free teen driver clinics why does nobody go to them?
I didnt know they did that... maybe most arent aware.. thats a smart idea too

Because they were not wearing their seat belt, I don't feel sorry for them at all. They were asking for it buy not buckling up. If they had worn their seat belt, then I would feel sorry for them.

I doubt a seatbelt did much when the force of 100 mph whips your skull into a steering wheel or windshield.GreeNeons03 wrote:Because they were not wearing their seat belt, I don't feel sorry for them at all. And not to be an asshole but I dont feel sympathy for people who live wrecklessly.
Too many teens do not think about reprecussions of there actions.

The seat belt is supposed to prevent your skull from going into the steering wheel or the windshield.slow2.0ts13 wrote: I doubt a seatbelt did much when the force of 100 mph whips your skull into a steering wheel or windshield.

Yes, at normal highway speeds. That may be true, but still, it couldn't have hurt to take at least that step of buckling up for safety.Maddog wrote:Yes, at normal highway speeds. This accident was obviously not at normal highway speeds.
