Why do we do it

Post by bone-yard-racing » Fri Oct 24, 2008 6:35 pm

Im not sure if it was this forum or not but you guys may know that I messed up my back pretty good about 2 weeks ago, it was/is to the point that I have hardly been able to get out of bed. Knowing this I still regestered for the auto-x this weekend even with the car sitting on jackstands as of yesterday. I made all the small battery stuff and threw that in also got the fuel pump done(3/4 tank of fuel landing on your chest hurts) any way as I lay here with my vicodin wearing off it has just hit me that this is going to be a bad weekend. Oh and its raining tomorrow with high winds. So my question is am I the only one who it this bad? What poor decisions have you guys made while under the infulance of car (or pain killers )

That would be daily driving a air ride equipped show car and constantly showing off to hotties while not being single. So much action I could have gotten this summer lol

Stupid things we've done? Well, I bought my car with a ridiculously high interest loan (19%) because as soon as I saw it I had to have it...

Yeah, that's my worst ATM, I'm sure I'll come up with more.

Wow this list is a long one for me if I can remember all the dumb crap I have done.

1. Changing drum breaks on a honda civic with no heat in 30 degree weather.
2. removing an engine with no engine hoist. And then re-installing it with out one by yourself
3. traded in my first neon that had over $5,000 worth of mods on it for a WRX then trading the wrx for a tribeca. :banghead:
4. doing a headgasket on a mazda protege in the parking lot of my apartment complex. with only a craftsman 72 piece ratchet set.
5. driving from AZ to KS in a 1ST gen ACR with a 2.4 that had bad piston rings, bad TPS, bad Spark plugs, and a lose fuel filter. Nearly got stranded I don't know how many times. Oh and all I had for tools was a 32 piece Stanley ratchet set. Did it in order to buy the damn car.

There is more but thats what I can think of at the moment.

My happy area has been soaked since like 9am, I being beaten like I stole something in my own car by someone who has never driven it before and I had a big, slow, un-recoverable spin on my last run. In other words today kicked ass

I did my lower control arm bushings alone.

That is enough.

I had 2 kids...

j/k! Wouldn't trade them for anything!

The most recent dumb thing I have done? Hmmmm...in my '97 ACR, doing 105 in a 45 (back road), and getting caught :banghead: (Dec '06). Could have easily lost him because of the huge lead I had, but didn't want to end up the subject of an article in the local newspaper. Plus, the cop already knew my car and where I live - not from previous trouble, but because the village cop-shop is just down the street from me.
The judge also informed me that I hold the record in my town  I'm just glad he didn't clock me 300m up the road, when I had the speedo pegged for a good 5-7 seconds, while still accelerating. :tardbang:

There isn't enough time to list the stupid things I have done. The problem is, most of them have been for other people.

One that stands out is doing a timing chain job on my friend's 1974 Satellite Sebring Plus. The car had a 318 in it with A/C. If you are familiar with it, it isn't a fun job. It was my first time doing one. I had a crappy selection of hand tools. It was done in a parking lot. No jack available. It was 40 degrees out. It was raining. It had to be done so he could go to work. It took me 6 or 7 hours to do it. I was 19 iirc. My back still hurts to this day because of that job. I didn't charge him anything for the work.

The things I do for friends

I have done do many stupid things for my cars. Lets see what I have...

- I (along with most of you guys prolly) have gone into debt buying things for my car.

- Slept in my first car when I got it home the first day.

- Haven't had a girlfriend in over a year so I can pay off the 2gn.

- My 1st apartment was a small 2 bedroom POS, and I had the 2nd room filled with car parts. I had an extra DOHC engine, 2 sets of wheels 3 sets of tires, random body parts, lights, a welder, and a "paint booth"

- My bath tub was a parts washer

- I took a 12 hour road trip the day I bought the 2gn just so we could "get to know each other"

- I think Ive shortened my life by 5 years with the amount of chemicals my body has absorbed/inhaled.

But at least I haven't done what this guy did...http://jalopnik.com/5069251/exclusive-i ... e-basement

The stupidest thing I've ever done?

-Rolled over negative equity onto two loans now. 2k negative from cavalier to neon, 4k from neon to cobalt.

-Did my entire air ride set up, myself, with no clue WTF i was doing, in a non-heated garage, in the dead of winter

-Dropped 9k in a neon... then trading in said neon for 4.5k (all parts sold thankfull)

-Sold my perfectly running Festiva :(

-Fried 2 alternators and 50% of the stock wiring in said festiva with a WAY to fucking big sound system and 40+ neon rice lights :D
