Most depressing thing so far though is Prop 8 passing. I can't believe it. I for one have a LOT of gay friends that DESERVE to be married to each other. They're more in love than I've ever seen a straight couple be. It's bullshit to even consider baning something like this. I thought this country was all about equal rights???

McCain, and as much as I respect him, has ran on a platform of hate and fear along side with his

ing running mate (hopefully we never ever see her again), The tactic is a very simple and effective one, repeat half-truths and inaccuracies until they resonate and scare people.... and that has been the nature of politics in this country for the last 8 years (thank you Fox News by the way!!). That's how you fuck-up a nation, scare them until they stop using their heads....... this is not a new tactic, and is commonly used by politicians all over the world, especially in times of instability....
But the decency of Americans came through , finally!!!! they saw through all that crap and said enough is enough!!!! Barack Obama might not be perfect, but he is an intelligent, educated, and respected man who will take this country forward, no doubt about it

and he for a change, because of his eloquence and rationality, can be a good representative for this country internationally, and restore much of its lost credibility ....
It was definitely a great day that will be remembered !!!! Go Obama

Though there have been some statements of intelligence made in this thread, this by far has been the most intelligent and well said statement.
I'm glad Obama made it to the presidency, I'm also glad that the democratic party did not get the filabuster proof majority. I hope that Obama sets the example for the senate on working together than against each other. It has been my observation that the democratic party wants this. With the Republican party needing to look into how their party needs to reconstruct themselves hopefully they will also be interested in working for the people instead of their self-interests as well.

haha all you people are funny. Typically all you republicans. I say that with some question though. I was a registered republican however i voted for obama. Just like someone in an earlier post said most republicans stick there head in the sand and hope the problems will go away. They wont. and like another person said wether his name is joe, john, carly, shannon, hussien whatever he is a well educated man that will lead this country in the right direction. Notice how the vote was pretty lop sided. Its all you people hanging on to the past that voted for mccain. We need change in this country and Obama is the right guy for the job. He will Unite this country and make us all once again proud to be americans.

The other thing I laugh at is this country was founded on freedom of religion, but if someone's faith is even in question about not being Christian, they are shit and can't be president. This is comming from a Christian, but one with open eyes and mind. And something else to consider, our founding fathers were not christians as the majority of churches would have you believe. Nothing like lying in God's name...
This is exactly why there is separation of Church and State.

Because if you break it down, there is no such thing. Otherwise the issue of gay marriage wouldn't have been brought up. This is one subject that is entirely religion based and
shouldn't matter. If gay people want to be married, then so be it. Who am I to judge them?

In case you all don't know the definition of Socialist or Socialism:
Socialist (n) - One who advocates or practices socialism
See: Barack Obama
Socialism (n) - Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods (AKA "Spreading the wealth").

This thread is obviously pointless. No one person is going to change any other person's opinions; especially ones who are ignorant to the things which are happening around them. The election is over, as is the drama, lets not start it again. The best thing that we can do is support our president in the things that he does and hope that he makes the right decisions- the decisions that will benefit us as the American people.
It is time that we, as American people, come together in an effort to forward this great country.
Close this thread.

To some degree you may be right. However, to preserve the sanctity of our Democracy we can not have only the super rich dictating the life styles of the mass poor, which I might add is the direction things have been going as of late. The middle class, the very people that support most of this nation, is having their backs broken because of all the deregulation, and most importantly Greed, that has been going on for some time now. I don't know if you've noticed but the middle class is disappearing and thus our economy is faltering while executives are getting richer. Once the middle class is gone we all become slaves to the few with all the power. The balance needs to be restored in order for our country to thrive again, and making the rich richer is not going to do that.
I'm being curt here and not going into extreme details so get the gist and don't hang on details that i may have skimmed over and make discussion from there. Thanks

I suppose I fall into the middle class. But like so many people in my bracket, I'm am very tired of being house poor. I would love the opportunity to have some money left over after my house and bills are paid. For me, this would be accomplished by consumer confidence being restored so money is once again flowing into business.
If this administration can accomplish that, then I feel not being able to go buy myself an AR15 is a fair trade off

That's why I stopped listening to GreeNeons03 awhie ago. He doesn't even know what he's talking about, and was just feed from the media on who to vote for. I'm going to assume his parents were extremists when it came to voting for McCain, so he followed suit.
I'll give a McCain supporter the time of day when they seem intellectual, not ignorant.
Last night was the first time in a VERY long time I was proud to be an American and actually saw a ray of hope for this country. At least people are banning together and fighting for a difference.

The middle class supports the nation with small business. Put higher taxes on small business and they start to dwindle.
Everyone and everything took a toll after 9/11, which had nothing to do with Bush. Sometime after that, Democrats took over Congress, everything went totally to shit, and people blamed it on Bush.

Thanks for the wiki quote.
Now, read it again.
The government does not now, nor will it control the means of production and distribution of goods. Therefore, ITS NOT SOCIALISM, GET OFF IT!
and you CAN NOT put the full blame on Congress, Bush has the FINAL say in what bills are made law, BUSH allowed the fucked up bills to become law and now we are where we are today thanks to that pile of dung we called a president for 8 years.
Now open your ears for two seconds please, i know its hard to do because you're a super conservative republican, but just bare with me for a moment......
McCain wanted to tax your HEALTHCARE, RAISE middle class taxes, and continue to give BIG BUSINESS tax cuts, further ENCOURAGING them to send MORE of our already limited jobs overseas!
Obama has said hes going to give tax cuts TO the middle class and small business and also to big businesses that TRY to keep our jobs here in the states! ZOMG, THATS SO AWEFUL! ..... yeah right
McCain was all for more goverment spending, then decided late in his campaign to change his mind and tell people he would veto EVERY big spending bill that came across his desk...the guy is two faced!
Obama said from day 1 he wants to cut government spending
you REALLY need to open your mind a little...one more stupid ignorant response from you and i just might kill myself, lol

It's actually from the dictionary. And Obama's plan of "Spreading the wealth" would fall under socialism. Good doesn't mean just food and shit like that. It means money too.
Also, CONGRESS has the power to over throw any thing Bush says. Bush can't even declare war. Congress does. Congress has the last word.

show me solid proof that obama's plans equate to socialism...
you cant, because they dont
you just cant face the fact that a black democrat has some REAL ideas on how to fix this country, seriously!
I'm more of a republican than a democrat, i dont totally agree with either side of the story, but obama's ideas are a shit-ton better for this country than mccain's
Look at this scenario. Obama lowers middle class taxes, putting more money back in our pockets, which we then SPEND, mostly to small businesses, which they then make more money, which then gets spent, mostly to moderate-to-large businesses. its a GOOD plan!
Another scenario. Obama gives tax breaks to companies that fight to keep american jobs. Ok. This now gives big businesses more incentive to keep our jobs here where they belong. I see no fault in that. More middle class jobs open, those people then spend more money, and the first scenario continues from there.
Go ahead, call it socialism, if it is, then its a damn fine plan in my eyes. Who gives a shit WTF it's labeled as, if it's going to bring this economy back out of its grave, then so be it!
stop worrying about labels and worry more about what can be done to improve the economy.

GreeNeons03 wrote:

Kind of.
A bill must first pass the House and Senate by a certain percentage (i can't remember the actual numbers).
After this happens the bill is then sent to the president for approval. The president has the choice to deny it, sign it, or let it sit and marinate. After a proper amount of marination (again I can't remember the exact number of days) the bill is sent back to Congress, the same happens if the president veto's the bill.
After it is back in Congress, they can vote again. However, iirc, the margin must be greater than the original approval to overrule the Presidents veto.
So if the President veto's a bill and then it does not achieve the appropriate percentage of yes votes then it does not pass. Therefore the President has a large say in the passing of a bill.
But then there is the end all be all where the Supreme Court rules is the bill is Constitutional.

Good good. Now, from what I understand of things these small businesses shouldn't have much to worry about in terms of higher taxes as the focus is more towards larger corporations outsourcing the work elsewhere.

I say fuck it if you dont like it move your ass over seas or something stop all your bitching and realize that even though he might not have been your choice someone had to do the job and as you can see the majority of the country felt he was the best man for it. Give him a chance. Why dont you become a citizen of china. See how that works out for you. Stops all your bitching and realize how good you have it. Even if you have to pay some money of yours(put very blunt and it wont happen like that) but as your stating you cant keep all the money you make. Why dont you move to china and make 30 cents a day in a sweat shop working 15 hour days. People like you are a disgrace to this country and what it stands for and you must not see the opportunitys it gives you. Atleast you had the chance to vote and each person had a fair chance to win. Man i cant believe what people have come to and how much they take america for granit.. its ridiculous
