Sadly, there are some of you out there who SWEAR by Microsoft's IE and shun and disown Mozilla Firefox even though it's clearly the better of the 2. Well, it's time to wake up IE users and think about switching to Mozilla before it's too late!!

Shut up dude, the less people that use Firefox, the less people that need to make exploits to hack into firefox.

IE is used by like 98% of the world or something...no shit their going to have millions trying to hack it

Way to go. let the other 2gners who use IE get hacked too!! Plus Mozilla keeps up with their shit and by far is WAY more secure then IE even IF there were hackers trying to crack it.

Wouldn't it be similar to the Mac/PC thing? More people attack PC's because they are the primary style of computer.

most likely, always been my theory

Friend: "Mac doesn't have any known viruses"
Me: "Because more people and businesses use PC and hackers/viruses are out to get majority"
Friend: "W/E you don't know anything about computers. Mac is better"
Me: "If you say so.. but I wonder.. if Mac is SOOOO much better then why does %99 of the world use PCs?"
Friend "Uhhhhhh....."
Me: *walks away laughing*

I gave Firefox a chance for the longest time. I couldn't take it anymore so I switched back to IE. I'm thinking about giving Chrome a shot sometime though.

You don't like Mac's because you haven't used them where they excel over PC's. For most of the public PC's are all they will ever need.

Anyways,

so you are agreeing with me that more people are attacking IE because more people use IE.

I will 1/2 agree with that.. I know more people who use Firefox than IE.. so I wouldn't be too sure. Also.. Microsoft products, in most cases, suck balls. lol

Meh, I run IE on the PC's and safari on the mac. I could care less. I don't do things that put my info at risk in the first place.

if you want an opposite opinion..........
In a list, published by security firm Bit9, of 12 most vulnerable applications for the Windows platform, Firefox finished at the top of the list.

The browser has earned the reputation from Mozilla patching 10 vulnerabilities which could be used to gain control, access, or execute miscellaneous code via buffer overflow, malformed URI links, javascript, documents and third party tools.

The browser is well respected throughout its open source community. Users can download add-ons, themes and many other tweaks that users can be used to adjust, modify and tweak their browser for maximum performance and appearance.

Bit9 posted a list of the top 12 vulnerable applications:

1. Mozilla Firefox
2. Adobe Flash and Adobe Acrobat
3. EMC VMware Player,Workstation and other products
4. Sun Java JDK and JRE, Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
5. Apple QuickTime, Safari and iTunes
6. Symantec Norton products (all flavors 2006 to 2008)
7. Trend Micro OfficeScan
8. Citrix Products
9. Aurigma Image Uploader, Lycos FileUploader
10. Skype
11. Yahoo Assistant
12. Microsoft Windows Live (MSN) Messenger
and IE isn't even in the list.... lol

i cant see how IE is not in the list.. MS paid-for propaganda?

regardless of which is more secure, my opinion is that firefox is the more useful browser.. the addons alone make it better than IE.

odd bit of coincidence though.. the other night i was sitting here on 2gn and somehow got hit with some malware in firefox.. from a malformed banner ad perhaps? i had no type of protection running at the time... and it was a bitch to clean up... not detected by nod32, symantec, detected by spybot s&d but not cleaned.. fun times

Things that make firefox worth it (to me):
1. Supporting open source.
2. Adblock plus (addon)
3. An actual download manager. omg!
4. NoScript (addon)
5. Bookmark Synch (foxmarks)
6. The ability to recover tabs.

I'm a big fan of Opera though; its speed is killer. Not to mention the built in BT client.

ok im not trying to start anything but you are trying to use this source as to say that all IE users should switch to something else other than IE. when clearly at the end of that article the author states that users should switch until the bug is fixed by microsoft. now i dont know if you really care about anybodys info or anything on here ( again not trying to start anything) but honestly what do you care if i buy something on ebay and my bank account gets hacked and someone stole a uber ammount of money? eventually maybe somehow the authorities will find the fraudulant offender and punish them. then again they may not. but as you should know probably half of what is on the internet is fake. maybe not half but alot of it is. fake users, fake websites. you get the picture. just trying to brighten up your view on things though i know myself its hard for someone to make me look at the other side. just a thought

I own two PC's and a MAC. I think more and more people are converting to macs and it is becoming an industry standard in the music and art industries. I think both sides have a plus. MACs are all internal therefore viruses are much harder to come about regardless of how many people were to own them. I do agree that they are a lil on the pricy side and they are bitch to switch over to if your familiar only with PC's. I own a toshiba satellite but prefer my mac but i think that is mainly due to me disliking vista compared to xp. as far as browsers. Safari, IE, and Firefox all have their positives and negatives, is just preference imo.

we don't. but you should. i don't think he's posting this info because he cares about everyone's security, but rather for your own information so you can make a semi-informed choice about your security. none of us really care if your bank account gets hacked, but you should, so wouldn't you want to at least try to keep your information safe?

i mean do you really click on all the links in your fake emails and sign into fake sites with your information and willingly let your accounts be stolen, or do you ignore/delete them?

i'm not sure what kind of point you are trying to make.......

i understand what you are saying, and i agree that he trying to help other people out and i thank him for that its just i feel he trying to give a bad name to IE when the author of that article isnt. i just thought a source backed up your opinion or views.

honestly i dont even check my email other than my school email for my grades at the end of the quarter. haha i dont know about anybody else but this probably pertains to teens and well into twenties (maybe) that email isnt very important. instant messege is the way to go unless you sign up for some kind of newsletter or check status of a ordered product. i dont give out any of my information about anything unless i absolutly trust the site, but if my information gets stolen its gets stolen. what can i do about it? haha i mean isnt just like some people like chevys and some like fords? im not trying to argue with anyone im just stating my opinion.

again friendly fire

I run opera as my main browser, no other can match the speed and features. Though they need to figure out an easier way to keep flash and shockwave working. It has been the most secure browser I've used to date.

As for Firefox, I figued I would try it out. I used it last week and the funny thing was is that I got slammed by a nice little virus. I had to do a lot of damage control because of it. I didn't go to any other side that I have not been to before on Opera and never had a problem. Firefox isn't bad but it is slow and seems to have some holes in it.

I just downloaded chrome and as of now I really like it. It's still not as fast as opera but it gets the job done on the websites that block opera. I haven't had any security issues as of yet.

As for the mac/pc thing...I like the macs but I hate the company and how they do things. They overcharge for the product and then if you need an accessory they charge 5 times what it should be and you can only get it from them. Pc's are univeral and have much more to offer for me since I get into windows and need to be able to change settings and files that I would not be able to get to on a mac.

The mac commercials to me seem to be helping pc since they are making the pc guy out to be really funny and that sells. Anyone else feel this way?

agree. i own a ipod and well they do charge wayyy too much for the things you need to make it functional to your life, wether it be you have the ipod, iphone, or even a mac computer. too complicted and expensive. steve jobs is just trying too hard to keep up with what bill gates has made simple and affordable, which in turn is what this country likes.

also i do find alot of pun in the mac commercials for making the pc guy funny and well the mac guy....boring and geeky (sorry if i offend anyone)

[quote="rOniN"]I run opera as my main browser, no other can match the speed and features. /quote]

i was a 110% opera user way back when it wasn't free.. version 3 or some shit like that... and i never could change to anything else.. never liked firefox.. but now? man oh man, as far as -features- Opera has nothing on Firefox... granted some aspects of opera might be better in a general sense, overall i think firefox has the win. and thats hard to say considering the many years that i used opera.

but it always comes down to user preference, and theres no right or wrong.... only misguided thought :p

If you found a website with a virus then I think you should consider not going to it anymore, even if you don't get it with Opera. That virus may not be the only one it spreads around. Antivirus and firewall software isn't perfect.

I actually have tried them all, but i found Firefox to be the most feature rich, and it is by far my favorite....

one of the main reasons why (Firefox, chrome, opera..etc) could be safer than IE is that they are stand-alone programs. they have nothing to do with the operating system. the problem with IE is that it is an integral part of the operating system. So once something goes wrong with it most likely a good portion of system files will be affected also...a hacker has a better chance of doing more damage through IE as opposed to the other browsers.....

I think the future is going to be for Chrome...i have been messing with it for a while, and it is very fast and has some great features, but still has some quirks.....once they fix those, i will switch over......

You are mistaken sir. I have used a Mac to attempt to edit video using Final Cut Pro. I got so fed up with it that I just ended up using my laptop.

What another shocking surprise... IE fails again. nothing new here. I quit using IE around 4 years ago and would never touch it again. Firefox has much better security and excels over IE. I've tried Chrome, and right now I don't see anything about it that makes it better than Firefox. Also I wouldn't give my macbook up for anything. I absolutely love it. My Dell desktop on the other hand... hasn't been anything but problems ever since I've had it.
