Well I first started on a 80cc dirtbike :) I got the concept there so learning to drive a manual was a little easier. "car-wise," I think I learned to drive on a 98 Escort :)

The very first time I ever drove stick was on a mid 80's Jeep Wrangler. NOT a good thing to LEARN on. I only drove that a couple times. Then it was my first Daytona (I'm on my 3rd right now). I bought it for $400 and all I did was burn tire in it. I can't believe that transmission survived.

Every car I've ever owned has been a 5-speed except for my first car, a 1988 Volkswagen Golf. Naturally it had constant transmission problems because Volkswagen couldn't, and still can't, make a decent automatic transmission (not saying that Chrysler is any better).

HAHAHAHAHAHA I was the same way in my Shadow. Man they sure don't build manual transmissions like they used too.

I'm talking multiple redline clutch drops. OEM clutch at 140,000 miles

My uncle had me go out in a parking lot and learn in his Festiva.... after that I drove the 01 Neon... I had SUCH issues with it too! Mainly due to the clutch grabbing at the VERY top of the pedal travel.
After I learned and was driving for a while I adjusted that shit to grab practically at the floor. I taught my one friend how to drive it, she had no issues whatsoever, and is not a car person at all. I even had her countersteer in the snow when I yanked the ebrake :proud:

Um I think the first manual I 'drove' was a tractor when I was 13. The first car was my then boyfriend, now husband's, 91 Probe GT with the performance clutch and go-fast mods. I only took it 1/4 mile before he made me stop though because we were on a time crunch and he had just had work done. :banghead: The one I really learned on though was my parents 03 Civic Hybrid.

You can get a hybrid with a stick? Didn't know that. I thought they were all those god awful CVTs.

A 1999 white ford escort for driving school. Then I drove a ford focus...

I'm not much of a Ford fan but I had no choice. :(

My first car, a '84 Chevy Chevette. Car was a total turd. Had an issue with clutch cables going out so to shift it I had to stomp it to the floor and yank it into gear with both hands while keeping my foot on the gas!

When I bought it I never drove a car other than a 91 Mirage in Drivers ED class in HS so I had a friend drive me to work. I watched him drive it and he gave me some pointers. I got to work, he caught the bus home so after work it was either drive it or live at work! I stalled it a couple of times but got the hang of it pretty quick.

Years later my brother got a Nissan SE-R and just about threw me out of it because I was shifting it like I did with the Chevette thinking that was "normal". Later re-learned that you can shift newer cars with half a foot push and your pinky!

I learned in a 1982 Datsun 280zx Turbo. It was my first car and I bought it from a strip club. It took me 2 months to pay for it. Every time I made a payment I would ask if I could drive it around the parking lot. I learned real quick. Still miss that car

learned stick on my neon.

I usually refused to drive an automatic. Took my test in the neon too. I kept freaking out thinking I was gonna stall and fail.

I have never daily driven a stick, nor owned one. I have driven a few though 97 vr6 passat, 97 mustang, and a 95 saturn, all were short rides or rides around a lot.

I wish that were the case in the United States. It's getting harder and harder to find a decent car with a stick shift here. Forget trying to find a 1/2-ton pickup with one now.

I learned with a Volvo VN-660 highway tractor and 10 speed transmission.

Took about 2 - 3 times on back roads before I was comfortable enough to carefully double-clutch it around town while avoiding squashing pesky 4-wheelers. Great workout for the left leg in stop 'n go traffic.

Anything feels like a rocket compared to a fully loaded tractor-trailer rig... LOL.
