Funny story...

Post by 2005.Neon.SXT » Sat Jan 03, 2009 5:19 pm

I was going to post this in the WTB section, but I wasn't sure.. so I'll post here and it can be moved if it needs to be :)

Anyway, so I was on my way this morning to meet Jonathan (acr2002) in South Carolina to buy a complete lip kit and his 2002 ACR rear section. Well, I came up to a railroad crossing and it had the "Rough Crossing" sign. I slowed down of course, but apparently I didn't slow down enough and rolled over the tracks pretty rough. That plastic piece in the wheel well, the one between the tire and the Intake Filter (for the non-turbo Neons) I guess came loose and was rubbing against my wheel for a couple seconds before the wheel gripped it enough and ripped it off, totally sent the piece flying as I ran it over and I have no clue where it landed. I was scared for my life that I had possibly tore my tires that I just bought a couple days ago, but those were fine... so now my CAI filter is exposed and I probably shouldn't drive in the rain till I can get a replacement piece (or maybe I'm ok as long as it doesn't pour?). If anyone knows what I'm talking about and has an extra/spare that I could take off their hands (I do have money available), let me know cause I'll be willing to buy it.

Thanks :D

This is why I switched to SRI. CAI's are too much hassle.

But I don't have one of those.

But you have to put a few coats of spraypaint on it, to keep it from getting waterlogged!

Do NOT buy the spalsh shield from ebay. I bought one and it is cheap thin plastic shit. See how much the dealer wants for one and if not then go to a JY. Trust me. It is cheap stuff.

Are those pieces even truly necessary?

I considered taking mine out, just because my wheels rub them in the front, and wanted to double check, haha.

But I have a CAI and I can totally see the filter.. I'm just worried about when it rains really bad. Or am I just being paranoid and I should be alright? I do have that side marker mod done, but everything's shrink wrapped.

What side marker mod?

And as far as raining... I would think rain coming through the bumper straight into your filter would be more important than it being flung off the tire. That's just me, tho.

The one where the side marker blinks with the turn signals. Kinda cool, methinks.

And yea, I am more worried about that same thing. Just looks funny how my filter is exposed.. I don't know. More of an annoyance than a worry I guess.

I wouldn't worry about it, personally.

Depends on what surfaces you drive on. Small pebbles/stones can make some good blasting material on the inner fender/air filter. Those things do more than deflect water. But if you want a ton of moisture holding dirt in your fender/strut tower that's your option.

I was considering taking them off and using some black rubber undercoating to set it off.

A few days ago I was backing my car up near a snow pile. I got a little too close to it and caught the molded in mud flap thing on the snow and ripped the liner off. :tardbang: I priced a new one from Mopar and it was $14.90 MSRP.
