Question about car not stopping immediately.

My girlfriend's car is not stopping immediately when she stop it. She removes the key and the car continue to run for a good 10-15 seconds then it just dies. I moved her car this morning and started it then I waited for it to die and did the process three or 4 times. Each time it took less time for it to stop. There's a Check Engine code when you remove the key. The car's a MTX.

Any idea what it could be?

Figure out what code it's throwing. Turn the key from off to on 3 times and the odometer will say "d0ne", and give you the code. Write it down and post it back here.
