I say do what you want. As much as I'd hate to see your car go it's not mine, or anyone else's, decision to make; only yours.
I love Beemers (we have a Z3) but I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and say that they are definately pricey to maintain. Heck, we just got the brakes replaced for around $700 (not including the maintenance fees). If you think you can throw that and still have the money to mod it then go for it.
