I used to body build.
A guy your size (I am ASSUMING that you have a large amount of fat content) can lose anywhere from 5-8lbs of water weight depending on the time of day. Ask any women about water weight and it's effects, they'll be happy to chime in.
Your best bet to gauge weight loss and muscle gain is to get a string. Use something thick like 550 cord. Wrap it around your stomach at it's widest point. Cut the string. Tape the end or burn it so it doesn't frey.
Forget losing pounds. Watch that string. If you are a mesomorph you'll gain mass quickly in the form of muscle. The scale won't be your friend, even though you're gaining healthy muscle.
Losing weight takes time and discipline. Don't let a stupid scale discourage you.

I want to lose weight and size. I do not like my home scale reading 5 pounds, nor do I like looking like Jabba the Hut or Shrek in pictures, or not being able to find clothes my size in a regular store. I refuse to go to a big and tall store, that's just demeaning IMHO.

its only demeaning because of what "commercial society" deems to be "acceptable." You are a tall person, probably with a large bone structure. There is no way your gonna look like Brad Pitt, but that doesn't mean you can't lean out. Your overall shape will still be "big" but not in the "fat/big" category. Understand?

Well forget what society thinks. A large percentage of the time it isn't healthy. Your quality of life will improve once the weight melts off.
Lift weights man. Although cardio is important, the energy your body uses repairing sore muscles helps with weight loss. It will also give you "shape" once the fat depletes under your skin.

Weight loss is a simple process.
You needs to ingest less calories that you burn up during the day.
Determine how many calories you burn during a typical day with your activity level.
Then consume about 500 calories less/day than you burn during that day. At that rate you may lose 1 pound/week.
You will need to judge how the process is working for yourself and make any necessary adjustments along the way... such as increasing activity level or decreasing food intake.
The hardest part of losing weight is the emotional factor, dropping the whole concept of dieting and keeping the weight off once you are back at your ideal.
It is a real battle... more one that goes on inside your head.

I am the exact say way as you. I was right at a nice 200-210lbs senior year of high school.
I'm gonna get the weight machine that my mom and I bought from my dads soon and hopefully I can be disciplined enough to manage weight lifting and biking around the neighborhood.

More activity, less consumption.
Feel hungry? ...have a glass of water.
Still hungry? ...have some raw veggies to chew on?

I'm 5'5" and 148 lbs, I did go up as high as 185lbs. when my wife was pregnant but I joined a boxing gym and lost close to 50 lbs. ( I was boxing at 136 lbs.) I've gained weight but not much in the past 2 years after boxing. Keep at it man and dont get discouraged the weight will come off if you've got the will.

You have no idea how many pairs end up converted LOL. Clean eating is key too! Like I told you before cut out processed foods, by-products, salty foods (which are bad for a whole mess of things) and just eat healthy.
Take a tip from anorexics....when you're hungry eat an apple, it's good for you, contains a decent amount of fiber AND wards off hunger. Pair it with a glass of water and it will help you along. Something my dad found useful (he just lost 80lbs in a few months time) were Slim Fast meal replacement bars. They'll help curb hunger also. Portion control and exercise.

Funny story > I have a digital scale that I've been using for about 3 years. It's nothing special, got it from Wal Mart I think. Anyway, my friend and I always "weigh in" when we hang out, just for fun. It's kind of a tradition now. For the last few months, we've been weighing in exactly the same, to the tenth. We figured it was possible the first time and laughed about it. Then it happened about 3-4 times in a row (about a week apart each time). The other day I had my other friend (who is close in weight to us) weigh in too, and sure enough, he too was exactly the same. POS Wal Mart scale!
I'm 5' 10" and I'm usually between 180 and 185 depending on time of day and what I'm wearing. Started working out steadily again recently and softball season starts in a month, so I hope to be into the high 170's soon. That's my goal at least, no dieting plans whatsoever.

I am with you on the salt. It is amazing the salt in some foods... particularly processed foods.
Salt retains water in the body... water is heavy.

MyNeonSaysHi wrote:The real question is how do you gain weight...

6' ft 150 checking in.
My metabolism is super high. I always eat 3 meals a day and snack between breakfast and dinner. Maybe thats my problem. Snacking = working your metabolism.

I feel healthy but I would like to be bigger.
Same here. I'm actually doing it...it's just a slow process. I'm 6'0 tall even. 4 months ago, I was 152lbs. I'm up to 166 right now. Hitting the gym 3 times a week, sometimes 4, and eating about 75 grams of high quality protein a day. My bench went from a max of 165 (don't laugh) up to 210 now. Still pretty weak, but I'm glad something's happening at least.
Try finding 32 waist, 34 inseam pants. Pain in the butt.

^^Sounds like you are where I am - well slightly smaller since I'm up at 190. I just started doing 3 sets of 20 at 200lbs. I noticed I gained very quickly once I hit 20 reps of 140 lbs.
Last summer I weighed 164 lbs at my low point since I was running 5-6 days a week while eating about 10,000 calories to keep my weight up. I dropped it to 3 days a week and hit the weights and gained 30 lbs in a year.
32 - 34 pants can be an interesting find - they either have a load of them or none.
As for gaining weight eating 6 controlled meals a day is a very good idea. Crank up the calorie intake of good food and figure out how much protein you will need to stimulate your muscles during recovery. I usually get about 80-130 grams of protein depending on what I end up eating throughout the day.
