It's one thing if English is your second language.... it's another if it's your first and you just suck ass. If you can't write a post without fkn up every other word...don't post.

You make really good points and I'll make sure to keep them in mind. I meant no disrespect to English as a second language speakers, or even people that mix all these things up; I was just venting a little on commonly switched words.

Thanks for keeping me grounded Ben :)

People worry about how other people spell or how their grammar is because it shows whether or not they are ignorant fucks, really making an effort to speak the language or are actually intelligent, reputable people worth listening to on a forum meant to convey information.

Now there are certain situations, jokes, whatnot's that are meant to try and emphasize a statement without any face to face interaction, but most people can figure that out (if not I'd be surprised with the fact that they were able to create an account here).

Hey, so am I as a matter of fact. Even though I was born here, Spanish was my first language since I spent all my time at home and that's all my parents spoke. Still remember my first day of school, that was interesting...

Anywho, I don't think ‘commenters’ on this thread are trying to pick on people that unintentionally do it. But I also think others do have a point that forums are not English papers. Part of the internet culture is 1337 speak anyhow.

x2...

In a for sale ad if someone can not take the time to write things out rather than l33t speak to me... what's that say about the person?

IMO: It means they are too lazy to proof read their post which means they are probably too lazy to actually do some general maintenance on the vehicle.

Just my point of view.

I used to have word filters setup on the forum where instead of changing swear words it made things like "u" show up as you "you"

You need a "hail to the moderator" smiley where it looks something like wayne and garth on their knees saying "we're not worthy"...

I think that would be very appropriate.... or we just need an interpreter like so:

No one was harping on the foreigner. The grammatical peeves posted above aren't higher than maybe a third grade reading level; get over it.

Now, if we were discussing something like... themes in Tolstoy and their place in Russian history, your comment may have been beffiting.

I sometimes wish this forum had the "block" feature. You add someone to a "foe" list, and magically, their posts stop showing up!! It just says "post made by '______' click to read."

It would be an awesome idea, JASON.

There is something out there like that but again, trying to hold off on modifying the forum anymore than I have to now so I can move to phpBB3 when the garage feature is ready for the move.

But these are all good examples for why English is such a difficult language to master, let alone learn.

LowNSlow, Dont take this wrong but you just contradicted yourself with your above post. Nobody is perfect but everyone claims to be. I am not trying to start any fights. I just dont like people picking one with me. English is one of the hardest languages to learn. We all didnt come from the exact same school and the style of teaching varies from town to town. People tend to type what they think, so someone in say, Louisiana is going to word something a lot different than someone in California. The television, music and advertising makes a mess out of everything we have learned from the way words are written and correct usage. I really dont care about any of this so....

Slow down, man. The foreigner reference was about the guy that said he was from Brazil or something. I didn't make a single reference to you at all in that post, other than the fact that we don't care whether or not you have a diploma.

I will give you my phone number and we cant talk it over.

wow...

I would love to jump in but I think I'm on the bad side with the grammar police. I don't expect people to type with commas, or colons, or correctly use hyphens, but there are some people that when they type they just spit it out without any clear route or cognitive idea, leaving the reader to decode the poster's secret message.

English is a very hard language to learn, and in many cases people who learn it as a second language can actually convey their messages much more clearly than the average American.

And as for the comment about the guy in Louisiana writing differently than someone in California that isn't entirely true. They may have a different vocabulary but their grammar will be the same. Written English has very little leeway.

As for this being a forum people will write how they would talk. It isn't going to always be a proofread message from every poster. It would be nice if they were but most people who can speak English can figure out what was meant or even the intended inflection.

Seems to trivial of a topic to get bent out of shape about....or if you're Canadian aBOOT.
