ok well i hate to be the devils advocate here, but ive got to semi-disagree with everyone. yeah, this kid did get fucked by the police on this because they have full authority to ignore/disregard anything they choose to.. they didnt NEED to ticket him for all those things.. they obviously wanted to be pricks.

case in point story i knew a guy that got pulled over here and the cops ragged on him for his exhaust (which was legal), tinted windows (which were legally tinted), and something else... yet ignored the HIDs in reflector housing.. if there was anything that was a guaranteed fine it was the HIDs, and they ignored it.

and about the speed.... how many of you have ever driven in CA? 90mph is not unheard of or uncommon and is practically the real speed limit....... as long as you dont get caught.

when i was in CA for vacation last year i regularly did 90+ on the highway also.. and lots of people were still passing me.. with 5 lanes of traffic theres so much room to buzz around. and in my week there i saw probably 5 police on the highway total, so to get caught it's really just your bad day..

when anyone else comes in here and complains about tickets they get you're all like "oh thats too bad go to court and fight it thats so unfair" and all of that.. but JUST because this kid was speeding instead its "its your own fault deal with it and go cry somewhere else"

sigh

Actually jT, read back on the last few threads about people getting tickets and whining about cops being mean, most of the time we're backing the cops for doing their job while some idiot is whining.

As for your friend, is it possible that, with all of the vehicles being offered with HID's nowadays, the cops did not realize that it was not legal in the car? Very possible, in my opinion.

Yes most people speed, everybody knows this. However, to go above the speed limit just because everyone else is doing it does not make it legal. Like the old saying most mothers have used "if everybody else jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?"

Yeah jT, he's right. Go check mine out. I wasn't doing anything illegal yet everyone will always side with the police just for the fact that then they can disagree with you. Whatever, that's how it goes. In this case the guy was going too fast, got caught unfortunately and they made an example of him. It sucks, but it's not like they pulled him over just to bust him for his illegal mods. If he wasn't speeding they probably would have left him alone. I'm sure they added all the other shit on the scare him and make him think twice about doing it again.

 Oh well it's a good excuse to de-rice your car. I can't say I'm upset.

I've had my car for 4 years this month, and it's been modified steadily since about 3 months after I bought it. I've never had a single fix it ticket nor have I ever even had to pop my hood. I've never had a traffic violation in this car either. Coincidence? I don't think so.

CA = WIN
D-bags = FAIL

Lets see many states are having financial difficulties and the quickest and easiest way to fill those coffers is to issue citations. Did the cops cross the line probably but you have to ask yourself if he wasn't speeding does he get the citations for modifications? Not to mention in CA they have a street racing problem and whether rightly or wrongly they profiled him and the quickest way to slow down "street" racers is to hit them where it hurts the most, the wallet.

I love when people try to justify that breaking the law really isn't breaking the law...lol.

advice for any none Ca native.

The speed limit is kinda relax. but all depends on time of day, and day of the week.

when i have to go anywhere i drive about 72 MPH i see CHP fly by me without any trouble. CHP pulls over a crazy ass driver doing to many lane changes ( in ca this is a big no no ) The far left lane you can (and i've seen) drive 70. Drive 70 in the far right lane you get pulled over.

But driving 90MPH well that just fuckin retarted and you should get pulled over and get so many tickets it hurts uyour ass when you sit down.

So there isn't in your county but last I checked CHP had jurisdiction in many doesn't mean there policy isn't the same across the board.

woot woot! Driving 92 on the street? Ouch - yet I can't sit here and scold because I am one of those d-bags who drives like a d-bag.... search the street racing section for my name - lol...

word of advice, kid? slow down, fix the mods, and learn to love it legal... and when you do break the law, accept it and move on.

yes they do... the patrol all of cali.... they can be lax or they can be strict depends on the day... as many have saig you can do 74 no problem.. but they frown upon the crazy lane changing.. stupid and yes speeding.. they will even pass 80 sometimes but it really depends on the say.. ive been passed by them doin 95.. weavin.. but they can cuz thats their job...
and more on the street racing.. ive seen news clips of people in la geting their cars crushed right in front of them.... gettin in trouble just for watching... but ya the car is gettin close to stock again...and my foot is lightening up..

Atlanta is kind of the same way at least on the interstates. In the cities and suburbs you better be at the speed limit or they will nail you, especially if you drive a modded car. On I-85/75/285 the posted limits are 55-65 but if you are going that slow you are getting flipped off and honked at. The flow of traffic is more like 75-80. I've had a cop blow past me while I was doing 80 in traffic, but they are pretty lax unless you are weaving through lanes and cutting people off or going 90-100 mph.
