The caliber is not, and was not meant to be a replacement to the neon; If that is what you are insinuating.

He's insinuating that the caliber is a piece that no one likes. Which brings us to his main point of the post, they should have continued to produce the neon.

I heard that it was a replacement. Hence it being the new SRT-4 model. Either way, the Neon should've been continued. I think they tried to follow the whole "hatch/wagon" train (Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, etc.).

Fair enough, sorry Keith. Anyway, yeah it is an incredibly ugly vehicle. I rented one on a trip in NY and it was awful.

The Caliber replaced it in a sense but the caliber is not an econo-class car. It is supposed to be a cross over utility vehicle that slots under the Journey/Nitro and minivans. Yeah it did replace the neon as the cheap car in the Chrysler product line but it is not to the neon like the neon was to the Dynasty/Duster.

I'd give anything to have been able to get a new neon right off the lot brand new.

Not much different then a used car except you don't start worrying about the first repair bill in 6 months.

People forget that the Caliber did initially sell well at introduction (but not as well as the 1GN Neon did). The Caliber was Daimler's idea and it fits in the five-door wagon market in Europe but the US has never been a strong market for this type of vehicle (other than maybe the Ford Escort or Focus). It would have made much more sense for DCX to have developed a 3GN Neon (whether it had been called "Neon" or not) to compliment the Caliber and give Dodge two vehicles to compete in the compact segment. Everyone has heard me complain about how, in my opinion, DCX hated the Neon and they were successful in killing it by using ever-cheapening quality and a lack of advertising.

Calibers are horrid machines. The fit and finish of the interior makes the neon look like a buick, that's no small feat.

You can argue looks all day long, but numbers don't lie. The Caliber is a fail machine.
My uncle just got an 08 Caliber SRT-4 with 3 miles on it for 17K w/ warranty out the door LOL.
The salesman literally said he couldn't get the car out of his sight fast enough LOL. I couldn't believe it.

Considering even the SRT-4 trim I still feel like I am in a mini van and the f'ing shifter coming out of the dash for the FAIL.

At least the CSRT is allowed in SCCA competition unlike the other trim levels in the production series. If I had a choice I definitely would choose something like MSP 3 or a 1st gen Focus hatch over the Caliber no matter what trim.

I watched a CSRT4 run at the local autocross. It looked really awkward to say the least. I test drove a couple before I bought the MS3 and it was a complete dog. Not something I would ever want to own.
