Quite a lot of the methods we use to prosecute people are far from perfect. 50 years ago the best technology available led the court to a conclusion it could very well be different from one today 50 years from now there is bound to be more reliable ways to determine innocence or guilt. I dont care if you're a cop, Patrick Dempsey, a house cat, or, a potato if you kill somebody who is posing no immediate threat on your own life you are a murderer that being said if somebody is posing a threat on you fire away. As a nation we're famous for our dealing with natural disasters I dont think an extra $125,000(roughly what life imprisonment costs) is going to help that. If you really have a problem with spending money on criminals how about this. We empty death row put all these people in a sort of circus, if you have a bad day you come put a dollar in a machine and out rolls a baseball bat you get a minute with the inmate of your choice, if they happen to die so be it but the deliberate killing of another human being is wrong.RADARsx 2.0 wrote:bone-yard-racing wrote:So its wrong to kill the first woman but morally correct to kill the other one back? In the end twice the number of people are dead.
For all of the death penalty supporters out there I have a question:
What if somebody who is genuinely innocent is executed? Then everybody who supported the execution is now a murderer therefore you support your own execution?
Its happened about a dozen people who were executed were found innocent after the fact based on modern evidence and/or science.
All this being said what happened to that mother and child is despicable may the woman who did this rot in a jail cell pretending to "find Jesus" for the rest of her days
Yeah that is a good point...but when your found quilty now a days with the science there hasn't been a "false conviction" so that issue is now an expired problem.
So by your thinking a police officer that shoots someone because they "think" they have a gun is a murderer because when the investigation reveals that it's a hair dryer...false conviction and that results in an execution?...kkinda the same idea to me at least....
And i think it's worse that she gets to live the rest of her life sucking off of society helping the system on waisting money and resources on her when that money could be used to help people before that happens and in much worse of times like "Katrina" imagine the millions saved if you execute people instead of spending it one people who will forever spend life in jail getting Bacholors degrees and PHD's and that in jail...
Nate if the conversations she and I have had about this are how she really thinks she would be thrilled and I'd have a couple questions [/quote]

I know when the death penalty was being scrutinized in MD a report by the Maryland Commission came out recommending its abolishment. I think two major reasons for the recommendation were: it’s more expensive to execute (factoring in how much court costs, etc. that a capital punishment trial takes as well as the execution itself) and that the whole point of capital punishment was to deter homicides but there’s been no evidence of that happening.

There really isn't any deterrent because it takes too long (appeals) to get it done and they dramatize it horribly. Fuck, they should get 1 appeal within 5 years and then after that take them out back with a shooting squad and end drop 'em quickly. Bullets are cheap.Pocahontas wrote:I know when the death penalty was being scrutinized in MD a report by the Maryland Commission came out recommending its abolishment. Or go back to public hangings. I don't understand why criminals have more rights than the victims... there really is something wrong with that.

Everyone knows that for breasts to be "perfect" they need to be within reach.

Yikes... how public are we talking about?hansken_yo wrote:Or go back to public hangings.
I'm assuming you said public hangings as a means to deter criminality by showing everyone what happens to criminals. That means that it would be where the largest mass of people can access it. I have a problem with this. I wouldn't want to see, and I wouldn't want my kids to see someone getting hanged. I don't even want to see someone lethally injected or electrocuted in that little showing they have when they do put someone down.
It's a gruesome thought to go pick up some milk and run into a hanging -.-

I will respond to this in a similar manner I would to censorship. If you don't like it or don't want to see it, don't turn it on, ie. don't go to see it

That's why I asked how 'public' you were suggesting they should be.hansken_yo wrote:I will respond to this in a similar manner I would to censorship. If you don't like it or don't want to see it, don't turn it on, ie. don't go to see it
